Where will the physical servers be located?

Hello CoE! It seems you are forcing people to pick servers pretty early in the timeline of the game and it does make sense to allow those who purchased packages to plot out land, align with kingdoms, etc.

It seems you have an NA-W, NA-E, EU and an Oceanic server for people to play on.

Can you explain where these servers are physically located? Is NA-W actually in the West of North America or is it in the same data center on the East Coast, but just named differently? I think it would be good to know more about the actual servers themselves.

Thanks!

Hi there, Chronicles of Elyria will be using something called SpatialOS (along with Soulbound Studios own server side software) which will use Google Cloud Compute servers to scale.

I'm pretty sure when you spin one of these up you choose a zone for it to be run from. But it's the Google platform that ultimately decides what physical machines the game world will use.

But for all intents and purposes each of the four instances will be in those zones. We just can't pin down exactly what data centres in what city or state the game will be running at at any given moment.

The great thing about using the big 3 (or more) cloud providers is that even if they lose an entire data centre, our game should carry on running.

They have not announced which way they are going, it will be Amazon AWS or Google Cloud. Either way the NA-W Server will be on the West Coast as they have said as much. Both vendors will be Los Angeles or San Jose for the West Coast.
