Barony of Vandemar

Order through duty, duty with discipline, discipline through freedom.

Vandemar lies at the roots of the mountains, forrests and plains make most of the landscape surrounding the area. Mild summers are usually followed by a long and cold autumn and much snow in the winter, the spring usually comes late and sudden. The farmers say that when lake Aelin nearby breaks the ice in its centre, that winter has come to an end - they are right every year. Vandemarians are stern and rather dry people, the harsh weather and the necessarity to be pragmatic made them very straight-forward in daily matters. They are usually tall for a Neran and have brighter hair colours than most others, ranging from lighter brown to blonde. Their clothing usually keeps to the colours of Grey, Blue or lighter shades of Brown.

Forced to often live through long winters, the Vandemarians prefer to build with stone, rather than wood. Wood is an elementary resource to keep the houses warm in a cold winters night.

They are not known to be the best smiths or crafters, but they are good architects and compensate their lack of speciality with the pragmatism behind simplicity. Better doing the simple task well than the complex task badly. Being told to be stern and dry, the inhabitants of the lands of House Sigismund are known to be disciplined and lawful, following edicts and upholding order whereever and whenever possible. Their view on their ruling family has nothing to do with love, but with respect. Respect towards the governing caste and its decisions, efficiency is what makes the Barony of Vandemar an important part of the realm.

House Sigismund, the ruling family of the Vandemar Barony, is governing these lands since three generations only. They have overcome the previous rulers in a short but intensive war and taken control of the Barony. Since then the lands have changed. They have improved. The old dynasty got fat with decadence and the comfort of rulership, seeing it as priviligue to rule. A Sigismund sees the work for the realm as his duty, to better the lifes of everyone in the governed area. Order and freedom by law are the tools the Sigismund family has installed, which have changed the face of most of the Barony to a place where living and working is worth the effort, despite the harsh circumstances. Gaius Uriel Sigismund is the current ruler of this part of Elyria. More will follow here.

Welcome to my Barony.

My name is Bram Sigismund and I have been roleplaying for more than ten years now. Seven of them actively online and before it was casual Pen&Paper. In late 2017 I got word of Chronicles of Elyria and finally got some spare money to invest into a barony now.

I have pledged my support for the Roleplay County of Rahlmont in Terenia already and look forward to finally get everyone known from my future neighbourhood. In my Barony I want to create a realistic-as-possible atmosphere of living. Everyone shall get the opportunity to enjoy the best expirience of roleplaying as possible. Yet it is not mandatory to join into the Barony. We shall interact with everyone who is willing to join our community and will welcome every single player.

Vandemar and the House of Sigismund have their origin in a medieval fantasy Roleplay about six years ago. Since then I have kept using the name for my roleplay characters and their home. Much lore has developed, in different worlds and different times and I expect and hope for even more to come with this opportunity. Medieval low Fantasy is the best setting I can imagine for roleplaying and gaming and I am very eager, even if patient, about to get the first taste of this game.

With Best Regards,

Organisations & Recruitment

Heerbann Ferrum

The Heerbann Ferrum is the standing military force of Vandemar. The soldiers are called Heerknecht and are commanded by the Marshal who is the peace time overall commander. To minimise mobilisation times and increase the defence perimeter, the troops are garrisoned in the Hohenlautern Barracks, which are directly at the settlement border.

The Heerbann optimises the possibilities it has and standardises the equipment of all soldiers. The training and specialisation of the soldiers focuses on infantry fights and they can without doubt be rated as Heavy Infantry. Structured in centre and flank Zenten which are each commanded by a Zentenari, they are able to withstand most assaults.

Their equipment is a long mail shirt, plated bracers, greaves and shoulder pads with a gorget and a burgonet. As weapons they have short sword, a dagger and a large tower shield, the flank zenten additionally have a long spear.

Available Posts:

Marshal (Commander)

Zentenari (Company Commander(s))

Heerknecht (Ordinary Soldier(s))

Office of the Praefectorate

The Office of the Praefectorate is an institution which only answers to the Baron himself. It is a mixture of police force, military support unit and espionage troop. The Office has a loose structure and supports the order of the Barony where- and whenever possible. They are usually looked at with fear or tremendous respect because of their shady nature and uncompromising decisions.

When not giving specific orders to specific members, the Praefectorate patrols the settlement and the Barony, searching for lawbreakers, criminals, bandits or beasts which harass the population. Inside the settlement, they upkeep law & order. In times of war, every miltiary unit gets a Praefect for the overseeing of morale and discipline. They are fearsome warriors as well as fiery orators. Yet they have another specialisation as well. Only by direct order of the Baron, a Praefect can be ordered to gather information. Information from within the Barony or beyond the borders of the Barony. This intelligence gathering is done without uniform or official decree and therefore usually illegal.

When on official duty, the uniform of a Praefect is not enforced, but should not be that far away from the standard presented here. The usual weapon of a Praefect is a longsword, a warhammer or a mace.

Available Positions:

Praefect Seniores (Leader of the Praefectorate)

Praefect (Ordinary Praefect(s))

Praefect Juniores (Apprentice(s) of a Praefect)

Don´t post in here if you are interested in the Praefectorate.

The Shieldbearer is the bodyguard and personal secretary of the Baron. He acts as his representative in council meetings and as his guard in battle. The Shieldbearer sees most of the Barons letters, works with him most of the day and has its chamber directly next to the Barons. He has no real power but is the de facto second man/woman in the Barony. He is equally educated as well as skilled in combat, especially duelling. He has to know the laws as well as the diplomatic relations. He is like a chief of staff for the Baron. It is a very demanding role and requires work, dedication and effort.

The Majordomus is the leader of the Barons household, in charge of taking care of the house maintenance, cooks, servants, organising stables and whatsoever. He is also the overseer of the houses treasury and what the Baron can personally afford and what not. You are also responsible for organising the travel and package of the Baron when he moves to visit someone or attends a meeting. It is a very administrative job, requires work and will definitely get you in touch with many people, action is rather unlikely.

Love the concept and unique touch you'll be bringing to our County! That realistic atmosphere of living is what we all aspire to create, and I'm sure that this game is gonna offer some interesting storylines to write into the history of Vandemar and House Sigismund :D

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I have edited my second post, adding two of the organisations where I am looking for members, as well as opening two of the spots where I dearly need someone.

Hail Bram Sigismund, your Barony looks like a fantastic place! :)

Happy to have you and your garrison as part of our County's forces in the Rahlmont Army :) With inspiration taken from roman legions, it offers a more organized and stringent military structure, no doubt formidable on the field!
