Use this thread to discuss what you think the hidden, unannounced, feature is in this week's design journal.

Space reserved for the answer to this week's Easter egg.

A'ight. Let's see what you got?

There can be Bounty Hunters. People who are contracted to go out and bring justice to those who break their contracts. Either summary justice or by restraint and trial. That also leads us to the possibility of a trial system. Maybe Magistrates who meet out justice in towns or regions.

"are different types of contracts for different types of laws. There are contracts for the tax code, criminal code, citizenship, land ownership, inheritance,"

So governments kan make contracts that pass the male heir and only the female heir will inherit lands etc.

"Capture or retrieve someone"

So capturing people and holding them, or retrieving them will be a thing, but maybe much bigger than just people who committed crimes, maybe you can capture a king/VIP and abduct people.

"And, just like there are different types of potions in the game, there are different types of contracts."

Alchemy confirmed!

"Characters just starting out will only be able to write simple Trade Contracts, while those more advanced can write guild charters and patents, marriage agreements, and even laws."

Character made laws and patents!!

EDIT: With patents would come rights of ownership. If I patent a crossbow, the idea is that I own its design. If others use the design I should be paid for the rights to use it. This would be another implicit contract! If someone is found using my patent without permission I could enforce punishment based on the laws!

"Perhaps the most important example is the Ring of the King. Once someone with sufficient claim puts it on, they are bound by contract to fulfill the role of the king. This grants them all the benefits and privileges therein, but breach of contract means death and a land without leadership until the next person accepts the contract."

Some items literally unlock features in the game that only those with that item can get to!

I noticed there is a mechanic for Negotiations in the contract process. We can haggle.

Items can be imbued with intrinsic value and significance. ie. Badge of office, signet rings, mayoral chain.

Is there a skill line of crafter who would create such items. The greater the skill the greater the item.

There can be storage facilities like barns and warehouses. Another place that will need to be secured from thieves. Now I have to hire more OPC's and train more guard dogs.

If I am defending my legally stored items and someone dies will I be guilty of a crime? Is it necessary that a law be put into effect to cover such an act?

I know this isn't a Easter egg but a question that is raised by the idea

"amongst a collection of people" We will be able to live together as collections of people from different families.

"explicit Contracts function as any other object in your inventory. You can buy, sell, trade, examine, or activate them" So you can examine objects maybe to find secrets hidden on them. All items in the inventory can be activated, so no trash items confirmed >w<

"a specialization of the Scribing skill " Scribing will have other specializations, books confirmed xD I don't know, maybe scribes will have another really important thing they can specialize in :P

" Once someone with sufficient claim puts it on" You can put in claims on your relatives position, land etc. Or people from your own dynasty, if my grand father sat on the throne but it passed to the other side of the dynasty, I can put in claims to said throne. Also people won't be able to just put on the ring of kings? or maybe you can steal the ring of kings, delaying the ability for the next king/queen to be crowned.

I can have a patent for an Item I created ( recipe ) and if someone whats to make that item I can get compensated for each one that is made.

ie I create a super light but strong armour. It becomes all the rage. Every time a crafter makes and sells one I can get a percentage of the sale.

"Perhaps the most important example is the Ring of the King. Once someone with sufficient claim puts it on, they are bound by contract to fulfill the role of the king. This grants them all the benefits and privileges therein, but breach of contract means death and a land without leadership until the next person accepts the contract."

Kingdoms and other titles will be magically enforced by ancient relics of the past!
We may find Rings of the King for Kingdoms that have fallen long ago, and bring them back into the world!

9/28/2015 4:18:45 PM #12

you can usurp kings by taking there ring, what if you had no claim and put on the ring?

9/28/2015 4:23:10 PM #13

you become the scorpion king

In the end, we decided that contracts can be used by anyone while they’re written by those with a specialization of the Scribing skill called Contract Writing.

Detailed and deep Specialization system!

As seen in fig.2, all items have weight, even a piece of paper. And there's a limit on the number of items you can carry (max 6 items on backpack), maybe a limit on weight, based on character's strength.

The example with scribing skill gives the idea that all skills have specialisations. In another screenshot from media section, we see other skills. Let's take fighting skill for example. Fighting has a broad sense, unlike combat in other games, where you have one handed, two handed, etc. skills. Those skills are specialisations here, under fighting tree. I don't like it, fighting is too complex and must be treated with a bit more respect, but, by the looks of it, that's what we'll get here.

We have player made laws, in the form of implicit contracts. That's a huge thing, cause that way we get a lot of options, some of them shocking. Like rewarding crime, death sentence for all sorts of funny reasons, etc. We can even start a kingdom of anarchy and crime. It's a game after all.
