[Mini Updates] Happy 4th!

Hey everyone! In recognition of how difficult it can be to find things in the forums, this thread (post?) was created as a way for our community to more easily find semi-official updates by the staff.

Semi-official meaning, they're not posted in a more official capacity in the form of announcements -- such as on the Kickstarter updates or the website's front page, for example.

So without further ado! This topic will be locked and stickied so that the information contained within would be easier to find and reference.

Hey everyone! We hope you're having a wonderful day wherever you are, and if you're participating in festivities involving explosives we hope that you guys are remembering to stay safe :)

We at Soulbound Studios have been working hard over the weekend to get the store ready for launch. Our goal continues to hold on July 5th, though exactly when remains undetermined. Rest assured, we'll let you guys know when it's launched. It'll be all over our social media ;D

Friendly PSA: If you ever get these particular novelties, make sure to place them on the ground on the side with the red bump so the chassis is tilted rather than flat against the surface... just, you know, in case somebody wasn't paying attention when the firework attendant explained how this particular firework performed.

As some might be aware, we've got a Kickstarter update coming out today -- the significance of which being, today marks a seven (7) day period since our Kickstarter campaign drew to a conclusion!

From this point onwards, we aim to keep the community updated weekly.

Again, thank you so, so much for your support! Whether that's been through spreading the word or backing us financially, we couldn't have gotten here without the community.

Due to this post accruing some attention and requests have been made to see it stickied, I'll slip it here.

  • Caspian, there is a lot of questioning about when the paypal store will be up, on the forums and discord. Can you please give us an update? In this instance, the "Silence is golden" rule does NOT apply. Even if you don't have a firm date, just an update of hurdles that are left, and a rough timeframe would be something.

Hey everyone! Tori here. For those unaware I'm the Community Manager as of around May 10th, 2016, as Miguel (Souzou) had moved to the dev team. And yes, I am a college student and most active in the evenings :)

Regarding updates: While there hasn't been anything official posted in the Kickstarter updates, Jeromy (Caspian) had thanked the community in the Kickstarter comments and we have been active in the IRC and forums (you can find staff/moderator posts beneath the recent threads). Despite this, we realize we've been rather quiet on other mediums and will work to rectify that. We do apologize for the silence -- it's been rather hectic rushing to get things ready.

For one, the difference in time zones slows discussion between the team and our lawyers a bit -- international payments have somewhat different legalities involved than the U.S. and we just want to make sure that we're doing things right. We're also currently ironing out some kinks in the payment processing platform that we're using; for example if somebody pledges at a tier, redeems their IP, and then asks for a refund, we need to account for that and work out a way to resolve that issue.

Additionally, it takes approximately two (2) to three (3) weeks for us to receive the funds we'd raised from Kickstarter once the campaign has concluded. This includes the 7-day grace period allowed for those whose pledges had not gone through to correct their payments before their pledges are dropped. We cannot provide any definitive dates, but the survey should be sent out to our backers once everything has been worked out and the funds have been transferred.

Our artists have also been keeping busy with creating assets for the store, and have been working with the Outreach team to put together a fan kit the community could use on their own fan sites. This includes various forms of media such as concept art, screenshots, logos, videos, audio files, and design assets that are acceptable for use. Due to legal reasons and in the effort to make a clear distinction between official websites and fan-made websites, some assets and logos (like anything involving the Soulbound soulstone, for example) are not available for community use.

This isn't everything that we're working on, but hopefully this little update helps tide you guys over until something can be released in a more official capacity.

Posting for those who haven't seen! Anyone want a sneak peek at the shop?

What you'd see if you were upgrading from the Chimera tier

Another little update, though much larger than the one above!

As some of you may know, the website had been down for construction approximately two (2) to three (3) hours ago. Though the temporary downtime was not due to adding the Web store, chroniclesofelyria.com had been down for about an hour or so as we moved the site to a newer, better server. The old one was a single core CPU with 1GB of RAM and was a little outdated, so we've completely replaced that one with a better server that would be capable of handling a higher load. We've got a new EC2 and a new database now, and the new server is multiple times stronger than our last one :) It should perform more admirably now.

On the shopping cart, we're still working on that. As our payment processor only provided us with a php SDK, we've had to write a new API to access it. Now armed with a .NET SDK, the shop is running a lot more smoothly and feels rather good to use. There's still some issues to be worked out, but that's one down!

Additionally, the new concept art by our Art Director Eddie Smith is looking absolutely breath-taking. It might just be my own preferences talking, but I'm not the only one on the team who has turned it into our desktop wallpaper ;) I think you guys might like it!

I believe that covers most of what I could share.. keep an eye out for this week's official update from Caspian!

P.S. I would also like to take a moment to reiterate that in the picture shared in the previous post, the discounted cost of the King/Queen tier is because you're upgrading from the $5000 Chimera/Karate tier to the King/Queen. As such, the total cost has been subtracted, so the difference remaining between the two tiers is the $5000 that you see there. As such, the uppermost tier is still very much $10,000. On the left, you can see a little area that says you're upgrading from the Chimera tier as well.

Oh! For those who have been waiting on this: we're finalizing the fan kit now for those who wish to utilize more CoE assets on their fan sites.

Cheers!

Just wanted to provide a bit of a mid-week update on our progress toward the post-Kickstarter survey.

First, as I think we've mentioned elsewhere, here's the timeline:

June 3rd Kickstarter ends successfully
June 10th Kickstarter closes payment adjustment period
June 17th Kickstarter funding period complete - no more refunds allowed
June 20th-30th Kickstarter funds should arrive in our bank account

We're now waiting on 3 things before sending out the survey:

June 17th funding period completes
Integration of Kickstarter accounts into CoE accounts where a shared email address exists
Website rewards store launched

As you can see, we're approaching the post-Kickstarter survey a bit differently than many projects. We want the situation to be as seamless as possible, so we're going to first integrate any accounts where the same address is used on both Kickstarter and your CoE account. From there you'll have a few things still to do - answer other questions (custom surname, region preference for server, etc.) and choose any add-ons from the web store with your pledge credits. This would typically be handled by a survey from Kickstarter or BackerKit, but we're going to do it with a straight email and choices on your CoE account.

The website rewards store is getting much closer to completion. The team is hard at work on styles, back end support, and payment processing.

So, all of this will come together in the next week, providing you with the ability to both integrate your Kickstarter pledge with your CoE account, along with the ability to purchase a reward tier if you were waiting for PayPal or other payment options.

We'll email everyone once the store is launched on our site. Thanks for your patience as we dot our t's and cross our i's...err, let's just say it has been a long few days at the SBS offices.

Hey all! Got another snippet for you guys this evening, and it's a little sneak peek at the store page. They've been resized to fit the screen.

Disclaimer: Please keep in mind that these are still a Work-In-Progress!

Hey again! Just popping in to provide a very tiny progress report on the status of the weekly Kickstarter update. Rather than being posted today, it will be published tomorrow, as we'll have a bit more to show you guys.

Thank you for your patience!

Additionally, an image was shared a few days ago on our instagram, providing a sneak peek into a concept for the character creation process in the game. Check it out!
