A lot of people seem to want to be Heroes in the form of the current 'ideal' of a hero.- A man is so strong and so confident that he beats the bad guy.
But I think a real hero, one that is legendary,mythic, memorable is one that challenges the odds especially in such a game as this. A man that does his job and does the right thing by all around him, is he a hero? a lot of us may say so and though we really should look up to such a person as it gives us the greatest chance of survival.
This person however is an accumulation of effective safe decisions to maintain a standard, This puts him in good standing, people can rely on him and it makes it easier for everyone else to decide their lives.
The decisions of a Hero are much harder, perhaps they have to choose between multiple decisions all of which have bad outcomes but overall give people the greatest hope towards the future. It is not only the physical safety that he must consider but a means to transition people through great cultural change. It is not unlikely that he have to become a scapegoat and take great sacrifice for the masses. Eg. exile. Perhaps he must keep his secrets from all knowing that the populace will not understand.
This is not a telling of who people should be, but a reminder if you want your actions to be memorable it is by swimming up river that you stand out.
