Hmmm, interesting question. I have been to a lot of SCA events, renfares and am an avid Convention goer, so I LARP, tabletop, and video game. The only thing that I find REALLY different about this is the "kingdom" alliances. I RARLEY "follow" a Kingdom but I have sworn my fealty here to Vornair but my "heart" lives closer in that I am a member of the Conclave. I just felt "at home" with this group of gamers.
