Until domain selection there's no way to make solid, in-game allegiances or pledges. Once you select your town or barony, you'll automatically be pledged to the county, duchy and kingdom within which your settlement stands.

Align yourself to a kingdom and get into discord and start getting to know people on the server you want to join. Being a baron you will need to pledged to a duke. You don't need to wait for land selection. I would start looking now for a kingdom.
