Moonrest

Hello, Luna!

For those of you whom have not seen the thread in Luna Organizations, The Moonrest Astronomical Society hosts a weekly post at our planet's current and upcoming astronomy-based events every Friday.

So in celebration of our NA-East's naming convention, treat yourself to a bit of Moon trivia!

Tonight (June 8th) around Sunset, the Strawberry Moon will rise in the southeastern sky, sitting low in the west by dawn as it waxes to 2017's smallest full moon.

So why "Strawberry Moon"? That name is actually one of many given to the full moons based on the month or astronomical event they occur most close to.

In the northern hemisphere, it is common to call June's moon the "Strawberry Moon", "Rose Moon" or "Flower Moon". Alternatively, in the southern hemisphere, it is referred to as the "Oak Moon", "Cold Moon" or "Long Night's Moon".

Thank you! Among other things, I also make posts about visible constellations, planet sightings and flaming space rocks!

This is so pleasant and positive. Tell us more lovely facts about space!

Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.
