Cadet houses

So it was just brought up in Nirath chat about cadet houses. That would be interesting to know.

Can we create a cadet house from our main family and if so how would it work?

They become separate families?

They stay as part of the family but the head controls the subsequent child codes?

Each heir controls Their own branch of the family with the same CoA?

I would be very interested in knowing the thoughts of the design team if this is feasible to implement as it would be an excellent way to handle inheritance especially for noble and larger families.

After checking with the team, this is not yet decided.

But it would help if you could elaborate on exactly what you are referring to by "cadet house".

Thank you.

I understood it as similar to Naruto's Hyuga Clan where the there is the main family that inherits and takes precedence over the rest of the family, while the branch family acts as bodyguards to the main family and serve a subservient role. The branch family in the game would not be so subservient as it would probably plot to perhaps one day gain in power.

The idea is basically that the player (if he is the Head of the family) would be able to manage the entire clan/house rather than just the nuclear family. This would be similar to being a Mayor, but would be on the smallest scale as it would pertain to only the family and family owned entities.

Like branch families? That could be neat.

In some sense, you'll get this "automagically" because of the way the family system works. A new branch of the family can lock its lineage which would give the head of the new branch some control over who can be a part of its line, but not control over the overall family line which would still be under the control of the head of that line. There are a few elements discussed here that don't just happen automatically, e.g. assigning a sub-branch of the family some sort of role, but that can be accomplished via things like contracts and even just personal agreements between members of the family.

but, as Serp mentioned, as far as a formal system of supporting branch families goes, we haven't decided if we'll go that far or not, at this point.

Hope that helps! :)

So, we will have a system to setup Houses (family)..like the Roman Gens, or the medieval nobility Houses?

This is nearly what we meant, we also meant the branch getting their own CoA but tbh I don't mind the same CoA if you can lock your own "branches"
