Subsidized Farm Land

I’ll be making a few assumptions first.

  1. There will be vacant farm land at the beginning of the game
  2. Some places may continue to have vacant parcels post-launch, perhaps due to the high cost of purchasing it.

Would those of you in government then be interested in a variation of a subsidized deal? You wouldn’t sell the land to Bob for a huge discount, but perhaps let him use it and farm it, and the government gets a pretty hefty portion of the proceeds?

And when a buyer comes along and wants to buy, boot Bob out.

Or I suppose you could negotiate a deal where Bob does get the land, but has to provide X amount of goods for awhile

I could definitely see that.

It has been said that you can rent/lease your parcels or parts of your parcels. Within that contract you could definitely say that instead of them paying you monthly/yearly they just owe you a portion of the proceeds.

As a count myself I could see myself doing that if I need to :)

In theory all of the above are possible, it sound like Bob needs to do some networking and I'm sure he can get a great community partner to help him out. :)

I'm offering it already, including providing the land, cattle and/or crops

Yep much like Haji this is a plan I intend to implement to get the good farming land going, after all a Kingdom will live and die on its stomach.

Seems a good strategy. Renting is always better than buying when the purse is empty. Good farmers get all kinds of benefits in live. They are never hungry :)

I have a rule: When there is no profit, the owner of the land is at fault, never the farmer/smith or any other craftsman who rents it. As long as both uphold the contract, nothing can go wrong.

Cool beans, thank you for the responses. I was curious for a friend ;)

I am running a farming County, dedicated to animal husbandry and farming, if anyone wants to be part of that feel free to join.

As a double duke I would absolutely assist, empower, or find a way to help a person, no matter their pledge level reach the potential they wish to. This would be far easier to plan and decide prior to the giant land grab of L-day (Launch day) . I will have a ton of land that I, personally, can't manage or maintain but that I own. Renting is an option, rent to own is another. The details would be something i'd work with the individual or organization on. So I would say not only is it highly probable. I'd love to see more people in that situation be aware that there are opportunities despite pledge amount to achieve self goals. If you are looking for a home send me a DM.

Would this concept be the same as an indentured servant? You work the land for another for a time and make them profit and gain until an appointed time where the land is considered the property of the servant? I could see that working in the contract system.

The OP's concept is literally some form of tenant farming. If the share of the goods mentioned is crops from the land or livestock raised on the land, it is a form called sharecropping in the USA. If money is paid, it is more like what is called tenant farming in the USA. There are many variations of contracts possible even with these two main types.

Soooo...serfdom? This is essentially serfdom. And it'll probably be a thing lol

This is what I plan on doing come launch. I will have way more land then I know what to do with and my other responsibilities won't allow me to work it all. Hopefully, I will be able to find some people who want to farm and manage the land for me. It should provide a decent income for myself as well.

Taking a break and don't know when I will be back.

The Duchy of Anor subsidises any person who wishes to produce crops and livestock.

One of our counties specialises in these areas.

So with tenant farming, it is common that the tenant will or could eventually come to own the land?

I don't see why you couldn't rent to own. You would just have to write the contract that way.
