Lines of Withdrawal

My Discord group had what I thought was a very health discussion about "what will you do when you lose your domain?" Given what is described here -- we should expect that to happen and get used to the idea. It is kind of like the Stoic philosophical practice of meditating on death.

So, what will you do when you lose your settlement or domain?

I will likely either explore (hopefully I will have a good ship by then) or try my hand at serious crafting as a scribe, architect or alchemist.

I know that I'll be diversifying my holdings a bit... not everything my family owns will be in the same County. That coupled with the fact that things you know as a Soul can be valuable should help me always land on my feet somewhere.

I do not plan to lose my holdings since I have no title and feel if my duke gets kicked out of his own capital, the invaders may still want me around for my kick ass alchemical practices.

But, to play along... I will simply chalk it up to story. I'll enjoy whatever setup I can make for myself during exposition and when that setup is taken from me I'll take my wonderful skill ramp and reassess based on how our community sits as a whole.

Kind of an all or nothing setup I suppose, but that's how I'll play my version of things :P

I’m actually planning on losing it peacefully to someone who actually wants the role of Count without the bank account to buy one outright. (Subject to ducal approval of course)

That said after my line relinquishes our title(s) to a worthy successor I will focus on the expansion of medical style healing. Leave the potions and herbs to the crackpots in the woods and focus on the future of cosmopolitan medicine.

I'm probably going to lose my domain either to foreign invasion, ambitious counts or peasant uprising (or a mix of all three.)

Assuming I still have some property in the capital I'm just going to offer my services as a militarist and bureaucrat to whoever the ruler of the kingdom is. I'll probably go full-on former noble house faded from glory, complete with alcoholism and hatred towards the new money.

I'm going to lose my domain due to dementia as I step outside one day, go for a walk and forget who I am, where I am and where my home is.

lol.

Depending on circumstances I may either try to gain back my former position, try somewhere else, or just do something completely different.

There's so much to do in this game, I won't cry over losing a county, it's all part of the game.

I have plans to setup in the county next door, whoever that is, a simply crafting shop/house. Then my life as a common man can start.

Would be easier to keep it within the same county, but I doubting whoever removes me, would want me staying around. Maybe just go with having a hidden stash close by. Pick up and move on to whichever town looks good.

If there were a Switzerland in Elyria, I imagine that it would have a lot of secret bank accounts owned by the nobility of all kingdoms.

;-)

Funny you should mention that ...
