The Confederation of Apaticia

Wouldn't it be great if a new semi democratic confederation of duchies was to replace Nirath...

From the Greek Apati, meaning virtue.

Long ago there lived many downtrodden, ruled over by an iron fist, generations past in dark silence. Mann were killed in their thousands all in the name of a merciless god Daemon.

The name of Nirath was feared throughout the world, home of the darkness, ruled in fear, worshippers of Daemon.

Then 174 years ago 12 great minds and fearless warriors met in secret, their aim... To overthrow the dark king and his death priests. During this meeting plans were made and a rebellion born, the 12 left the cave to go back to their own people. Their aim to grow sects dedicated to the virtues over the next few years, and to await a call to arms from the leaders of the Waerd.

When the call came it was subtle, these great people were tactical geniuses, it started as a minor uprising in the southern regions, small bands of fighters rose in rebellion, raiding castles and towns before disappearing into the caves, their major advantage was their communal thoughts, the Nirathian overlords could not match this communication and soon called for assistance from the king.

Determined to stamp out the rebels in quick order the king called his armies and marched south...

Eventually the kings armies surrounded the hideout of the Waerd rebels, easy to crush them, the king keen to show his ire marched forward with his royal guard and most feared units the rest of the army held back as a rear guard.

Forward they moved towards the readily prepared defences of the rebels. They knew some would die but they had the numbers to crush the rebels, just before battle as joined screaming was heard from all over the Nirathian lines, Waerd infiltrators drew their weapons and plunged then into the exposed areas of those around them. Then somewhere on the field a horn blew a triumphant tune, joined by another and another until all across the field 8 horns were blowing. Nirathian soldiers all across the lines threw off their black cloaks to reveal bright silver armour. Joining into units they charged into their former comrades, killing these dark paladins in their hundreds.

The battle was won, and the dark king lay dead, his priests pierced by the hooked dagger's, this might not have been the end of the Daemon worshippers if it hadn't been for the last great plan.

Whilst the king marched south so did Kypiq warriors, they hunted the Nirathian nobles and priests of Daemon, soon the leadership would be dead and those dedicated to the dark king fled north.

After this great slaughter the 12 met again in the capital, their followers wanting each to be declared king, but these great people knew that the newly freed people would soon tear themselves apart, so they declared themselves protectors and split the kingdom into 12 grand duchies. Each would rule one of the duchies and pass it through their family lines, and from their number would be elected a Grand Duke. Someone to lead the kingdom for the span of their life, to pass it on to the next great Duke on their death...

And so the great Confederation of Apaticia was born.

Just something I quickly typed up for a bit of fun.

I'd actually be all-in for a rome-style semi-democracy with elected kings and some sort of senate.

Definitely shouldn't make Dragor out to be some Tyrant, he deserves a better story than that.

Maybe an Avatar: The Last Airbender type scenario where Dragor, the chosen one, disappears, and the Dukes form a republic to wait for the return of their king?

Who said the king was Dragor, he might just be a descendent of that king whose family have lived for the past 170 years in demalion
