Linux goal

Why Linux goal is so high? There a lot of goals before this (the Linux goal) that is exclusive to high pledges (and will not add to the game in a long term and with a large scope of players)

Hello, i am trying to write a fancfic and need help with it since english is not my first langague: https://chroniclesofelyria.com/forum/topic/8070/help-nedded you can read it here: https://chroniclesofelyria.com/forum/topic/7546/the-spirit-of-the-void-chapter-3-is-out-0605

Because very few people play games on Linux compare to the PC, so it's not really worth the cost to players ratio at the moment. Maybe down the road when the game is making money they'll be able to throw some towards a Linux build.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to begin development with at least Linux support in mind rather than trying to backtrack and fix everything later?

I understand Mac and VR is a whole nother ball game but I feel like it's good practice to make it Linux compatible at the get go. Besides if they ever want to tackle the steam market, steamOS is Linux based I think.

Just thoughts

With Vulkan having 1:1 compatibility with DirectX, Vulkan can be chosen and it would ensure CoE works on both Windows and Linux from the very beginning. Plus we're well past the stretch goal for it now.

it was probably such a high stretch goal because the devs are most familiar with DirectX.

If I remember correctly, Vulkan launched during the kickstarter, so they set that goal with OpenGL in mind.

1:1 compatibility works better in theory than in practice. It seldom applies to the bugs that become undocumented features, in particular.

Perhaps, there are a number of popular games however like Dota 2 which have it enabled bug-free and have reported significant improvements to latency and CPU usage. Even Star Citizen switched over from DirectX 12 to Vulkan https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/03/star-citizen-ditches-directx-12-for-vulkan/

Merely pointing it out here again because the developers have promised Linux compatibility and Vulkan is the best way to do it.
