I am personally interested in the Waerd for their strong sense of community and dedication to one another. It might take a generation or two, but I hope to get the Waerd to majority tribe in my area.
Great post Kalmerus!

the only thing with the waerd that makes me not like them is their weird killing fetish and their annoying need to impose their religious idea of how the world should work on other tribes.
If they werent soooo in love with killing, I would consider playing them.
I like desert environments and I wanted to play a dark skinned tribe originally but the waerd are just too crazy for me. I have a problem with violent religious extremist.

The Waerd do not have a "killing fetish". They are merely prepared to kill in order to maintain the balance and to defend their communities, preemptively if required.
A Waerd murder-hobo character would bring imbalance, and so would be frowned upon by all other Waerd.
All Waerd need to be prepared to kill, but taking life for the sake of taking life goes against the order of the Two Fold Queen.

I feel, based on the tribal write-up and the lore piece we got a little while back, that the religious focus of the Waerd is going to be mostly directed at the greater powers out there (the ‘unbalancing forces’), not simply on individual players and other tribes.
Waerd are misunderstood by design and I guess those of us who choose them need to accept that burden to some degree. It will take a special type of people to want to take up that burden and follow a unique story path.
You might even be wishing for a few Waerd zealots to be nearby at some point!
I have the body of an 18 year old.....I keep it in the fridge
The only thing that concerns me about going waerd is the fact that without a group I feel as though they won't be as fun or do as well. If CoE doesn't pull good numbers, ending up with npc waerd tribe or just a small tribe doesn't sound fun. I already know people who are going waerd and leaving the settlement after creation. I see a lot of people doing that especially when they run out of room for other tribes and newcomers have to be waerd. If you couple all the reasons people will leave waerd with a low population, waerd tribes could be in tribe.
That is a valid concern, and it is part of the reason why I made this post, I want to bring the Waerd to the attention of more players and try alleviate many of the misconceptions about the tribe that have worried people.
This thread also shows some players with titles who want to play as, or include the Waerd, which hopefully will help other players find groups to join.
The Waerd are a really interesting tribe. I absolutely love their lore, but in this particular case I'm definitely talking about how they work mechanically. Waerd settlements have a lot to offer new characters, their communal benefits and family-like settlements basically mean that Waerd newbies have an advantage as they learn new skills, and have access to the tools and crafting structures they need without having to search for them, make them, or buy them.
Given the same pool of information, and the same number of skilled characters in a Waerd settlement vs. a Neran settlement, and a new Waerd will very likely learn their skills faster than the Neran, despite Nerans being quick learners.
And when a Waerd does decide to leave the settlement? They remain connected, and can share their knowledge. Each Waerd that leaves, assuming they don't waste the connection, becomes a conduit of information from afar; a pair of eyes that benefits everyone.
But that works best when everyone agrees to work together; if you "roll Waerd and walk away" intent on never looking back, you're kind of buying a supercar to commute to work in. You might enjoy the drive, but you'll never realize how amazing that ride really is, that way.
Waerd certainly give me a bit of an identity crisis when choosing Dras. Thank goodness Dras and Waerd are allies so I dont have to feel like I am being unfaithful between my 2 loves
Absolutely amazing write up for the waerd! I look forward to seeing plenty of waerd players once launch happens.
But if they don't value material possessions how can I have the peasants stare in jealousy of my riches... literally unplayable tribe xD
I don't know anymore.

Now I kind of want to make a Waerd hitman... death for hire disrupting the balance of all in the search of more difficult prey.
