COMMUNITY - FORUMS - THE TAVERN
Took some photos of interesting weapons/armour from the Royal Armouries

As the title says, here are a few pieces of weaponry/armour etc from the Royal Armouries Museum, thought they might provide some inspiration for the devs/community members with Design Experiences. Unfortunately I didn't take notes or photograph information sheets for most of the pieces so I can't provide a great deal of background for their provenance but hopefully you can enjoy them anyway. You can probably check out the Royal Armouries website for more info.

'Lannister' armour

A set of armour with lion pauldrons that are very reminisce of Lannister armour from Game of Thrones.

Helmet with stylised face

Helmet with a distinctive nose and mustache incorporated in the design.

Gift helmet of Henry VIII

A helmet gifted to Henry VIII by HRE Maximilian I. Originally part of a full unique set but only the helmet remains. Very impractical but definitely a unique piece.

Quadruple-pronged axe

Tribal axes from the Indian subcontinent, cannot remember their age/culture, apologies.

Device for grappling enemy weapons and clothing

Found this very interesting. I can't imagine they were particularly effective or we would have seen them much more widespread, but an interesting specialist weapon nonetheless. The extra effort put in to making it look like the claws of a bird of prey may indicate it was more of a display or ceremonial weapon. Could definitely see something like this as a deviant weapon in Elyria.

Elephant armour

Mughal (IIRC) elephant armour. Very impressive to see in person, cannot imagine fighting in proximity to these even if they were allied. War trisons anyone?

A display of knights charging infantry with pikes and firearms

The idea of Elyria progressing in to firearms is quite controversial in the community, but I love examples like this showing that the emergence of firearms doesn't mean that the medieval style knightly combat, sword and board etc suddenly ends. There was hundreds of years of overlap with firearms and high-medieval armour and combat, we can have our cake and eat it in this situation!

An example of a suit of armour with a matching firearm.

Pretty self explanatory. I see a lot of people dismiss firearms as beautiful weapons, but there ways to progress with Elyria's technology (if it goes that way) and still look stylish in front of your subjects/peers if you can afford such things.

Triple-barrel matchlock firearm

Hrothi, anyone?

Early air rifle

I remember Caspian discussing taking Elyria into a sort of vaguely steampunk feel in its far future, and these make me think of the sort of weapons we could see. Could perhaps have less power than a firearm but still works in the rain (no wet powder) and far quieter?

Scythe bayonet attachment

From south-east Asia but cannot remember which country.

Lots more interesting weapons and armours at the museum, but hope you enjoyed this little mixed selection.
