Flax

Is the pouch of flax seed from the textile farm kit different from the dried flax seed from the gift of charity? can you plant the flax seeds from the gift of charity?

My question is similar in that I want to understand where a seed can be planted. Some seeds are labeled according to their biome Temperate or Tropic. If the seeds are not labeled with a specific biome, such as the flax and cotton seed, does that mean it can be planted in any biome?

The dried flax seeds are food.

irl all seeds are dried to make them storable for longer and to prevent them from rotting in storage.

Afaik all seeds can be eaten as they're high in nutrients. You can even eat seeds from the stinging nettle for example. Most seeds need to be treated mechanically before eating or else they would pass the body unharmed.

This has to do with the germination protection seeds have. In order to break that protection you have to expose them to cold temperatures or put them in water or vinegar over night. In most cases a moist soil is enough though.

In regards to CoE it boils down to gamemechanics and balancing what the devs allow.
You should be able to eat and plant all seeds in game. Except when the devs use a system that tags seeds as either edible or plantable only.

@Madame Ventisette:
Flax can even grow on poor soil so you should be able to cultivate it in any biome.
Cotton needs warmth and lots of water. Cultivating it in the north might give you poor results and it might be cheaper to import it from the south.
