Layaway Now Available

By Vye

Hail, Elyrians!

Today we release our long-awaited layaway functionality to the store! This update comes with some other goodies too: most notably the EP tables.

The Laya-Ways

Some of you may be familiar with layaway in the Real World™, where you take a bunch of stuff you want to a counter, put down some minimum amount of money for the store to hold it, and then receive said items once you have paid the full amount (plus the layaway fee). Layaway for us is essentially the same thing, except we are not charging an additional fee. The minimum amount you must put down is 10%.

We know there are some rather desirable things available on the store, and some of them are kinda pricey, but we don’t want that to stop folks from being able to get what they want and support us at the same time! If you would like to lock in your product tier now and spread the payments out then layaway is for you!

Please note that additional payments must be done in multiples of 10% also.

In regard to using your earned IP the same-as-cash for layaway, it ended up being more complicated than we had anticipated so that will be coming next week. I didn't want to hold up the entire update so, if you are wanting to use IP you got from overspend or friend referrals to purchase something on layaway, you'll be able to use it soon. It won't stop you from using cash now to lock-in a product tier—you can just use your IP to cover a later layaway increment.

Which brings up a good point about how flexible our merchant Xsolla is; you can make each increment with a different payment type. Start out with PayPal, use your IP for another bit, then all your gift cards from the holidays, then finish it off with a credit card!

Exposition Items

Head over to the EP tables, you'll see several sections to peruse

  • Residential Buildings
  • Commercial Buildings
  • Profession Packs
  • Transportation
  • Furniture

You want houses for your farm? We got that!
A modest library for your city? Consider it done!
A two-story Paper Mill with a stone first floor and wooden second floor? No problem!
How about a cart? And a mule? How about a pair you can breed!
What about your castle’s dream furniture? Absolutely!

You can now see the EP items in the EP table that you can totally buy with your EP once the EP store opens in mid-November! For now, you can see everything you will be able to get with your EP but not use it just yet.

A River Runs Through It

Something else I wanted to touch upon, while we're talking about creating your dream settlement, is the price of land. In Elyria, as in the real world, some land is just more valuable than others. A farm will have better crops on rich soil, a castle is more fortified with cliffs around it, a mountain with iron veins will provide better than if it were rife with limestone. So during Exposition, land will be worth different amounts.

Different land prices is not a new concept

More details will come on that when we have worked out a few more aspects of the design, but I wanted to give you a heads up now. You may want to mentally prepare that a couple extra parcels may be necessary in case your ideal location ends up sitting on richer land.

Other things of note that Caspian and ZRO worked super hard on

  • For clarity, IP has been renamed to EP everywhere it’s supposed to be
  • Took off the old Kickstarter page
  • Fixed a bug in page titles and user birthdate
  • Those who bound their Kickstarter account to their CoE account after the store went live can now use the store
  • Total Influence has been fixed for those that had incorrect values
  • People who pledged on Kickstarter for less than $25 have had their donations converted to store credit so they can be used to purchase add-ons.
  • The receipt page has been updated to show layaway payments and discounted package prices
  • Oh, and did I mention that layaway has been added to the online store?
