ruled from the City of Rothenburg.

History of Rothenburg
Before there was a kingdom and peace, there was just a mann
The Redlands:
Originally known as the Redlands, for it was home to warring clans whose strife had caused the very soil to run red with blood (or so say the old tales). The clans were united by an outsider, who came from a neighboring Kingdom. That outsider's name was Rothe. An adventuring lordling, Rothe led the knights and bannermenn that he had gathered to his cause to unite the clans to bring about peace and prosperity. Some of the clans listened to the voice of reason and were persuaded to lay down their arms, others however required the sword.
Upon completion of the campaign, Rothe founded the City of Rothenburg. His knights were made hereditary lords and given dominion over the outlying land. All those clansmenn who had been willing to lay down their sword and swear an oath of peace and loyalty to their lords and liege were also given plots of land for their families to reside. But he knew for this peace to last for generations, he would need to develop institutions to resolve disputes between the clans which had been until now resolved by blood feud; and so he instituted a system of laws and courts that provided certain rights and justice for all who dwelt within the realm. In time, for these accomplishments, Rothe became known as Rothe "the Lawgiver".
Rothenburg Today:
The Duchy is a peaceful realm in the Kingdom of Tyria. Its people are industrious, its nobility enlightened. The Duchy is governed first by the Rule of Law, and even Dukes are subject to its principles (for example, see below). The system of feudal tenure is strictly observed, and so Counts govern their Counties without fear that the Duke will enact laws that restrict their ability to act in their full capacity as Counts, and each landholder has guaranteed rights on their own land that cannot be infringed.
The City of Rothenburg acts as the Duchy's local capital, and seeks to foster trade, industry, and pursuit of knowledge [would welcome hosting a school-guild; for those interested].
The Rule of Law in Effect:
Duke Ethric "the Mad" had a rival for the affections of his intended bride and he murdered her in cold blood. When his Justiciar learned of this, he arrested his Duke, and so the Duke went to trial, where he was convicted by a Jury composed of every Count in the Duchy, and sentenced to death. As Duke he was allowed to choose the method of his execution. This is where he earned the title "the Mad" because he had chosen to be bled to death slowly by leeches.

Ancestral and Appointed Titles
Counts
The Counts/Countesses are responsible for resource management, building up settlements within their counties, establishing wealth and power for the kingdom, and encouraging research. You’ll be creating trade routes, identifying where resources are being gathered, and funneling the money to/from the settlements.
Mayors
As a Mayor you’ll be responsible for managing your towns zone parcels of land for leasing (residential, commercial, industrial), and must monitor the settlement resources and taxes. You’ll also be planning your town's future by deciding where and what types of structures are to be built.
Barons
As a Baron you have many of the same responsibilities as a Mayor with the added duty of ensuring you maintain a garrison of trained soldiers and focus on building defensive structures. You are funded by the Duke/King directly as well as serve them directly.

Suppliers
Suppliers are those responsible for getting necessary resources to Producers. Suppliers are further divided into Gatherers and Merchants.
Gatherers are responsible for gathering or raising basic resources, such as ore, gems, wood, food crops, animal by-products, and so on.
Merchants travel long distances in order to requisition and exchange the more extraordinary or rare materials.
Producers
The Producers are the crafters of the world, such as blacksmiths, bakers, alchemists, and tailors.
In general, Producers stay within the safety of a town and rely on suppliers to go outside and fetch the things they need.
When they're not crafting they're selling their goods in a storefront or auction house.
Explorers
Explorers are those who specialize in survival skills, allowing them to be out of town for long periods of time, roaming the badlands, braving forests, and wading through swamps. They're the treasure hunters of the world. Whether it’s an untapped mine, an unspoiled tomb, or a magical tree in the middle of an uncharted forest, Explorers make their living by knowing what's where, and charting the safest way to get there.
Champions
Champions are the bodyguards, sell-sword, soldiers, and dungeon-delvers of the world. When Explorers discover uncharted new territories, it is the Champion who proceeds forward and gives the all clear. When merchants makes their way along dangerous trade routes, it’s the Champion who keeps them safe.
Guilds
Guilds of all trades are welcome, and encouraged to set up and live in Rothenburg.
