Cannibalism, it's whats for dinner

I was just thinking, some of the survival games out there have added cannibalism, do you think they will allow people to eat each other?

That is illegal in real life, and a rather *cough distasteful topic so I personally would think it should be left out of the game, much the same as you would not have pedophilia ...

I don't think it would fall quite to the same extent as pedophilia. For example murder is iillegal in real life, but I imagine it will exist in CoE.

Cannibalism would approach places that are harsher climates where food might be limited.

There were even some recent cases of tribes that would eat deceased family members so that insects and rodents would not eat them.

Weird subject I know, but interesting considering more and more games have it.

Cannibalism is taboo in our western worldview but, as things go, is not the darkest topic to broach. Pedophilia on the other hand would be a non-starter.

I would be in favor of some kind of cannibalism system in CoE, even if it meant social sanctions or law-enforced punishments in addition to murder.

TL;DR yay cannibalism, boo pedophilia.

Well... In the dev blog about death, it did mention that after permadeath, you can be looted from in a process called "Corpse Looting. Whenever you come across a corpse, you can take all items from the corpse. This isn’t just limited to items the corpse is wearing."

LOOT ZE FLESH!

Cannibalism is not illegal everywhere, though murder is... I'm pretty sure none of the Argentenian rugby team were arrested for eating the deceased plane crash victims...

Once again this topic comes up (for the 7th or 8th time)... There won't be Cannibalism in the game, Caspian has been crystal clear on this topic...

Unfortunately there would be no cannibalism in COE, we asked developers several times, offers were made to make it a stretch goal for sound cannibalism system, but alas were firmly denied...

It is sad no cannibalism, was looking forward to Kypiq poppers. They would make great snacks for the Yorus.

Hes right, no matter your opinion on the ethical "shade" of cannibalism, it would likely have to be left out for the same reason as pedophilia: International ratings and standards for a videogame.

Also why the big push for taboo? Ive seen requests for Slavery, Child Murder, and Cannibalism. I am honestly surprised someone wants to be able to commit such acts in a virtual persona.

Have you see the direction society in general is moving? It use to be that as a society we had an agreed set of moral values, of right and wrong. But over the past 20-25 yrs we started moving towards a moral relativism where right and wrong are relative and in constant flux dependent on each person's perception and desires.

While agree moral relativism has taken center stage, these moral inclinations act on an individual level. We still have societal norms, traditions, and in this case taboo that are nearly universal. Cannibalism, Child Pornography, and Slavery are all taboo at the societal level , and I would believe you would be hard pressed to find an average person who could make an argument for 2 of those even on the grounds of moral relativity.

In regards to Cannibalism I will go on the record as saying it is potentially justifiable under extreme condition, however; the costs of adding it as a mechanic (ESRB and likely ban in Australia) outweigh the pros.

Plus eating people is nasty.

You can't equate cannibalism with child pornography and slavery. Two of those exploit or outright deny human rights, one does not.

Personally I find cannibalism disgusting and terrifying, but I don't think its universally morally reprehensible. It was once common among some tribes to eat the heart of others to gain their courage.

As an aside, Fallout has cannibalism, and Im pretty sure thats widely available in most western countries, so I don't think its that taboo to be in a video game anymore.

Cannibalism isnt evil. You would probably feel more uncomfortable eating animals as well if you developed relationships with them but they are so far removed from our cycle of awareness. In a survival game it makes sense. When you are starving to death you become more animalistic. Theres a difference in eating because you have to and associating people as food. Theres enough planned features in this game so im fine with whichever.

Hope they dont make the game overly peaceful though.

Here I am wondering how people are comparing cannibalism to everything that is completely wrong. I could see some tribe eating another tribe just to add more lore into it. The whole range of RP that could be included into this.

I have played a few different games where you can "eat to gain HP". I'm pretty sure in WoW you can do that on an undead character.

So not really seeing how it's something so wrong and should never happen in any video game. What a better way to hide the body of some NPC you just murdered by quickly eating them? :P

I was not equating them (Slavery, Child Pornography, and Cannibalism) , instead I was saying the reasons why they (all 3) are typically disbarred from video games is the same.

I thought Fallout 3 was banned in Australia for cannibalism, turns out they banned it for the depiction of drugs. Go figure.

Addendum: Are we considering Australia Western? Legitimate question, I know very little about their culture.
