The Byzantine solenarion, Turkish majra, Chinese tongjian and Korean pyeonjeon are all the same weapon concept.
The solenarion is a hollow tube through which an archer could launch several small arrows (mues, i.e., "mice") at a time.
The small arrow can be anything from actual small arrows to darts or broken arrows. The archer, depending of the type of small arrow can load the solenarion with up to 5 ( in case of darts or broken arrows).
The fact that the arrows are smaller let the archer carry more of them, prevent the enemy to re-use them if he is not using a solenarion himself and let the archer scavenge projectiles from the battlefield more easily.
Elyrian transposition
For me the Solenarion would fit right at home with the Kypiq.
It is an ingenious weapon, that use materials common to their biome, would let them compensate their lower strength and size.
It would let the Kypiq take advantage of the lack of open space in their biome, by saturating the area with a large number of projectiles they would literally rain arrows on the enemy. if the back of the darts are "weaponized" they would allow the Kypiq to quickly deploy areas of caltrop like weapons
