Arena Questions

Can we get some details on how an Arena would work in-game? I'm concerned that if I buy this massive structure it would just sit empty most of the time. So, some questions:

I'd envision some system to setup and run tournaments daily for those interested (PCs or NPCs). Is that functionality supported in-game?

How would you set rules for the fights? First Blood, Submission, to the death? Thumbs up, Thumbs down.

How would you establish prizes for the winners?

Are there slaves? Could NPCs be forced to fight in the arena by their owner?

How would betting/gambling on the games work?

Thanks

There will never be slaves or people forced to fight.

You make contracts on what type of fight it will be. The combatants sign and agree to first blood, submissions, to the death, first to eat sandwich, etc.

The prizes are whatever you make them.. You can have people fight for a high quality weapon that was crafted or whatever you have. The prize will be part of the contract.

I don't know how the organizing of events would work to be honest, at least when it comes to NPCs. I know we can have sign boards for advertising and notes that npcs can read. I would guess you could post an ad using the ingame communication system that npcs could understand.

I think you can expect that you can set up rewards -- both through the contracts system and through the "make your own dungeon" system -- to make the arena a regional attraction. However, if there are other nearby arenas you are competing with, that could be a problem -- or an opportunity to set up a rotating event like a tournament cycle.

That said, ingame gambling would likely have rl legal issues if there is any rl value to the outcome -- and there probably would be. Gambling might still happen -- but I doubt, if they get good legal advice, that SBS would ever facilitate it.

Good questions Deftly; the Arena is a structure that you can technically use for any purpose. However, it has built in facilities to host mock-combat bouts, including tracking the winner of a match based on rules you define, and hosting series of such bouts in the form of tournaments, again with tracking of rules, managing the lists, etc. It's through the built in system to manage these things that NPCs participate. Even if what you're doing is a public address or a play or some other performance without competitive or combat elements, the event management system associated with the Arena (And stages and other venues) will let you set up the schedule the NPCs use to gain awareness of what's going on at the arena, so that they know when to attend and what their personalities decide they'd want to see.

Tournaments and matches can have prizes, which are arguably won through skill. As for gambling, that's still an open question. Nothing would stop players from making wagers of their own, but institutionalized gambling hasn't been designed or implemented yet.

Hope that that helps! :)

Thanks for the info snipe.

If we want something smaller like a meeting room or an underground fight club type of thing. Will there be something that would let us have the arena functionality(tracking, signs up, etc) without having to use this structure?

Would the arena be suitable for training men and beasts for military purposes, or would it be more cost efficient to just make an area of sand or dirt to do so?

Ser Long, my thought on it is that you can do it. But just a sand/dirt area can help you that much. And you might want to keep for yourself the techniques you use and protect your goods from thieves. Or protect the thieves from your „goods”. :)

That sounds like a trial and error question.

Does that mean it's planned or it's up in the air? Because if it's still undecided I would really love a baked-in gambling system to tournaments like these. Pleaseeeeeee. I need to appease my casino addiction without losing all my rl money :(

Couldn't it just use the same framework the tavern gambling uses but tied to the win condition of the tournament instead of the tavern game?

I don't know anymore.

Great!!! I just bought one :)

... its game to fight for title (not title because nowadays Elyria has different rules than Ancient Elyrian tournaments but gain parcel of land when Arena fight winners were found

... I hold Arena fights like

revenge -you can challenge other by using "noble duty" (noble duty is answer every defamation to his family name) -one on one fights -fight until death

duel /single combat -one on one fights every round winners meet next round and 3 winners all gain parcel of land

battle arena -group fight against group -winner group loot other(loser) group goods

county town hall gives you also certificate to bloodline, settler and proprietor title for free otherwise you need buy land and buy also title from town council

Can we name arenas as we do our settlements, lakes and rivers? And/or have them show up on the map?

Example : Ironwood Stronghold of Silver'leaf, Silver Arena

Mine will be for music events and plays until I invent football.
