My domain you say? Ha! As if I were fool enough to let myself be bound by merely one domain. No, in fact, now that I think about it… I do have a domain. A remarkable domain. The most remarkable domain.
If you look at the map you’ll see my domain. It’s all of it. My domain is the world. I have walked the length of Elyria, from north to south, from east to west.
I’ve lit fires with pine needles in the far northern forests, watched them crackle and pop as snowmelt battered at the burgeoning flame. Been hunted by the wolf menn and their insatiable territorialism. I’ve breathed the thin air of the Hrothi highlands, been chased down cliff faces by angry mountain goats and even more belligerent riders. Walked the crystalline caverns where the gloom makes you wish for sunlight once again.
I have walked among the roots of the ironwoods, where Kypiq eyed me with curiosity and fear, with mischief and revelry. I have seen the wooded forests of the Neran when autumn turned the world every shade of gold. Been hunted by fanatic Waerd through desert and shrubland. I have hunted the plains lions of the grasslands and been hunted by knights espousing endless virtue while practicing only vice.
Even the vast herds of the shrub steppe and the greedy cattle barons have not been spared from my tyrannous gaze, nor the to’resk paper maker and pen pushers in their strange woodlands.
Even the terrifying swamps where flies as big as your fist will suck the marrow from your bones I have seen, complete with terrifying emaciated dwellers, keen to hear news of the outside world.
I have been to marsh, to wetland and beyond, as far south as the canopies of the rainforest, where brutish savages swung from vine to vine, seeking to prove their mettle by the glory of the hunt. I have visited that harrowing realm of death, where even the plants would seek your death.
I have been stabbed, beaten, bitten, kicked, poisoned, eaten, tossed and tumbled through the breadth of Elyria.
I have mastered river and coast, lake and stream, mountain and hillock, desert and wetland.
I have seen storms that lash the coastlines, been buffeted by winds on the top of the world, seen the vast ice flows of the northern seas and the ice wind that will tear the flesh from your bones. I have seen rains that last for months, rains that will eat your clothes, rains of ash that turn the world a darkened black. I have been near blinded by sandstorms, sharp as glass and fast as fury, and been hunted by creatures dreamt of only by madmenn.
You wanted me to show you my domain?
That is my domain.
Elyria.
