High above the lowlands lies a bright light, visible with the naked eye for miles. The Star of Valon, an ancient site, erected before memory in another Age, glows at the top of Beretnasch Bastion. Legend states that it was brought to earth by Amrlin, the martyr, who used its flames to heal the land. The star exists today not in the sky, but as an outcropping of crystals sewn into the earth like a scar. Harder than the hardest diamond, no man has ever managed to separate them from the ground or even cause a scratch on their surface. In times of dire need, some say the star brightens on its peak, guiding refugees to the protection of the bastion and its caretakers.
