“We march the path of power, unafraid and unshaken by the masses driven before us. The County of Lindinheim. We are unbreakable. We shall not be denied. Greatness is our destiny and the glory that comes with the slaughter of the savages who threaten the Duchy of Baxteria will be our ultimate reward.” ~ Baleron Vindhlér, Count of Lindinheim, Lord of Gödenheim Castle
Maybe you’re in it for the coin. Maybe it’s the excitement, the companionship. Maybe, just maybe, it’s because you know you’ll be pushed beyond your limits and brought to a moment when you must either utterly destroy your weakness or be broken. It’s inconsequential. Lindinheim calls to you. Those who join our military county are trained in well-guarded techniques, stances and disciplines. As a result they tend to think and act differently than others. The full-blooded members are formidable opponents on the battlefield, each supporting one another in tight formation, fighting together as one. Strength in unity. That is the mindset of a Lindinheim warrior.
Absolutely, our military cannot effectively defend or conquer without the skills and talents of its Mayors and Citizens who keep the home fires burning as well as produce the food, tools and supplies necessary to sustain them on the battlefield.
Leadership is arguably the most important aspect of civilization. As some say, “Would a door open without it’s hinges?” Of course not. But ask yourself. Would it open without the door itself, or the very nails that keep the hinges in place? Leaders not only need their people, they must inspire their people. But the people also need their leader. There is no illusion of power within Lindinheim. As a Baron or Mayor within the County of Lindinheim, it is your responsibility, not those above you, to make the decisions for your people. While an overall objective will be provided for you, it is left in your hands to decide on how to complete that objective. You know your resources better than anyone else.
Count Baleron Vindhlér of Lindinheim in order to secure the welfare of his peoples, ensure prosperity to every serf, villein, and freedman upon the lands and protect the peace of the roads and the trade thereon hereby proclaims the establishment of The Golden Wings Company.
The County of Lindinheim will run a feudal style of Military, with each Lord or Lady maintaining and mustering their own Military force. These forces will be known as Banners, and will be ran under contract that when called upon, each Lord of Lady will answer the call with their banners.
The Knights of the 13th Order are the Counties Cavalry Division. Comprised of Heavy and Light Cavalry, they'll be a force to be reckoned with.
"Through battle, deed, and honor, we live and die to protect the Blood of Lindinheim." ~ Argyn Grau, Baron of Wissenheim
The Pandion Guard will be Lindinheims County Guards. They will be scattered around the County, protecting the woman and children as well as ALL Citizens of Lindinheim.
The Lord/Lady of a Settlement who is of Noble status
A Citizen of lower Noble status with years of military experience. An honorary title bestowed upon mostly mounted men, but also bodyguards to the Nobility of the County. Knights are landholders and will be granted land by Lords/Ladies.
A soldier who is well trained and well defined in their role. A man-at-arms could be a knight or nobleman, a member of a knight or nobleman's retinue or a mercenary in a company under a mercenary captain. Such men could serve for pay or through a feudal obligation. The terms knight and man-at-arms are often used interchangeably, but while all knights equipped for war certainly were men-at-arms, not all men-at-arms were knights.
A squire is a Knights errand boy. They’re their shield and armor-bearer. Through years of training, a squire could be Knighted if he proved him/herself in battle.
Levies/militia have little to no experience and often are simply peasants called to arms to defend their homes and land. Levies typically are used only in worst-case scenarios and are not part of any standing military forces.
Although the bulk of the county military, in times of war, comes from the troops provided by the lords who have sworn fealty to the Count. These soldiers are combined into a single army, one that the highest-ranking lord/lady has the right to command.
In this, the vast majority of troops raised by each house are often typically untrained levies-farmers given a basic weapon, perhaps some armour, and relatively rudimentary training when compared to those of the standing military. A much smaller percentage would be footmen professionally trained for combat, and even fewer would be mounted knights who train their entire lives for battle.
Green: Soldiers with any training, but who have not seen any action. Levies who survive a battle automatically convert into green infantry.
Regular:
Seasoned: Troops who’ve seen more than one battle and lived to tell the tale.
Veteran: Troops who have seen several battles and know what to expect in warfare.
Elite: Soldiers who haven't seen a lot of battles and survived, but have trained and executed complex maneuvers under extraordinary conditions.
Super-Elite: The most highly trained and battle-hardened units. Typically, units capable of surviving for long periods behind enemy lines.
