There are also islands and adventure islands around the world, offering more discoverable places and biomes
Part of what will be required for discovering the new lands is reaching certain research, and manufacturing (ships) goals. The exact requirements we dont know at this time. Essentially its for building ships strong and fast enough to survive the voyage.
