At this stage that sort of digging is on hold.

FWIW, I was KS Backer #21 and wanted nothing but the best for this game.
In reality it'll be the boundaries of your land I expect. You'll just hit a invisible barrier in the same way that you won't be able to build on other peoples land.
Sorry to tell you this but from what i heard you can basicly dig tunnels everywhere and you might even find another tunnel while digging. Or someone might find your tunnel while digging. I dont know if you can dig as deep as you want to.
Actually you can dig under other people's land AND build on their land. No invisible barriers in this game.
Well first, it was stated that you'll only be able to dig 10-32 feet down.
If you accidentally dig into each other's tunnels, that's going to be a pretty awkward situation you'll have to work out for yourselves.
I imagine if you build walls for your tunnel people will be discouraged from invading your tunnels. They were saying destroying buildings without siege equipment would be very difficult and tedious. Perhaps too tedious for the would be invaders.
I believe that with digging you could dig anywhere you would like, however it would be viewed as squatting and, if found, would get you in trouble just the same as building a building on others land.
I suspect those points will all be brought up again and discussed after the initial development (ie as stretch content or for a later patch).
Personally if tunneling wasn't going to be included form the outset, i'd pre-generate random crypts throughout the map, with lockable mausoleums on the top, just so folks have the option, and the quite frankly cool environments available.
There's every chance thieves guilds, religious cults and more would operate from crypts and catacombs given the chance.
I want to do a whole "catacombs of paris" thing with my county and have all my lands pc's buried there. :P
