Mage's Guild of Aranor

Welcome to the Mage’s Guild of Aranor

I'm pleased to announce the Mage's Guild of Aranor will be recruiting those with The Gift or those seeking to open themselves to it upon launch at the White Tower in the City of Dax, Arcane City of Aranor. Her majesty, Queen Leana Kallar, has decreed the City of Dax as a center of learning to foster the arcane arts. Dax is located in the Duchy of Maloria, the Capital of the Kingdom of Aranor.

The Guild is committed to providing a safe, friendly environment for those with The Gift, to maximize their potential and study further alongside others. With the rarity of The Gift, providing a school for those talented with it ensures that the fullest potential can be attained.

Those talented with The Gift are not the only members welcomed by the Guild. The Guild welcomes many into its fold. The only requirement is that those who seek entrance desire to expand the study of magic for the good of the kingdom.

Alchemists. Those who have the talent to create astounding effects through chemical interactions are welcomed by the Guild. Many alchemists lack mystical talent, but have the training and knowledge of some of the reagents that are used in spells and rituals. Alchemists are highly useful for locating rare ingredients that mages need to employ their spells. We plan to foster alchemy in any way possible, and ensure that our alchemists will always have access to the supplies they need to prosper.

Mage Protectors. The wilderness is wild and threats abound. Additionally, Aranor offers solace and refuge to mages who are persecuted in other Kingdoms for their gifts. Mage Protectors may find they can earn valuable coin at the Mage's Guild by making themselves available for hire to accompany young mages on journeys to procure the rare ingredients necessary for the study of the arcane and alchemical, or in their search for arcane artifacts, new mages, or to assist bringing in a persecuted mage seeking solace. Thus, Mage Protectors, warriors and rangers pledged to the service of advancing the study of magic, are welcome in the Guild.

Gemcutters and Jewelers. Some magic may be too powerful to be loosed upon the world and must be contained in specially prepared repositories made of precious gems. And some of the deeper mysteries may require special reliquaries of power as a focus or component to trigger the release of energy. These require exacting technique to craft lest the spell or ritual backfire and fail, or worse. Thus, master gemcutters and jewelers are welcome in our guild who can, for a price, craft the foci and components necessary to fuel our spells and rituals. If enchanting is not a game mechanic, gemcutters and jewelers will still be very useful represent the wealth and power of the guild through flawlessly beautiful ornamentation.

Scriveners and scribes. It is a lot of work to catalog and chronicle all of the arcane happenings in the realm and making such information available requires the crafting of books and scrolls to be kept at the White Tower. Thus, those talented with literacy and penmanship are welcome in our guild.

Couriers. As a guild focused on obtaining information, it has the need for copious use of couriers. Thus, it plans to employ a legion of couriers to assist in the transmission of information to its members. Professional Couriers will be paid a salary, while there will be courier quests for adventurers and merchants as well, for less urgent messages.

Herbalists. The study of the natural and magical properties of certain herbs is an entire sub-school of study at the Arcane College. Thus herbalists are welcome members of our guild.

Animal Handlers. Fantastic beasts abound in the world. The blood, hair or nail clippings of which may serve as components to fuel certain potions, spells and rituals. The capture, raising and training of such beasts is therefore necessary for any mage’s guild. This requires the talents of skilled animal handlers.

The Benefits of joining

GUILDHALL SERVICES

The Mage's Guild of Aranor is a community of wizards, sorcerers and those seeking the secrets of the arcane. It is a safe place to discuss and trade all things arcane. It is also a place to learn the Arcane Mysteries, should you find someone willing to help you unlock your talents and teach you. Find respect, help and possibly even a little coin in the halls of the Mage’s Guild. Finally, it is a place for new mages to obtain a Mage Protector to accompany you on your journeys.

The Mage's Guild, will be more than just a Guildhall. We plan to offer free housing and local storage to our members. Through our association with the Arcane College at the White Tower, our members qualify for free classes and training at the Arcane College.

SHARED RESOURCES

The Mage's Guild of Aranor is sanctioned by The White Tower of Aranor, which houses the Arcaneum of Aranor, a repository and catalogue of Arcane Artifacts. The White Council, lead by High Mage Eucretius Daxis, Magistrate of Dax, permits for a small fee Guild Member access to these artifacts for study and for a larger fee, temporary use, provided such use is supervised and on Tower grounds. These fees go to fund the Tower's search for additional relics, which relics are used primarily in the defense of the Kingdom and to the benefit of its citizens.

Additionally, the Mage’s Guild has a partnership with Grunwald Trading Company to assist its members in finding rare objects and provide work in the form of quests or tasks for its members.

Guildmember’s Responsibilities

The guild itself will be generally benefitted by information sharing. If there is a rumour of a new source of Arcane power, a relic or artifact or an arcane threat or threat to mages and sorcerers, we greatly expect you to report it. Additionally, if other kingdoms are discriminating against the magically-inclined or abusing those who show promise with The Gift, we expect you to inform us of such policies. The guild represents cooperation between the magically inclined to the benefit of the Kingdom as a whole. Thus, we have harsh penalties for intentionally incorrect reports. We also expect that you will help other guildhall mages in times of need and come to the aid of mages in other kingdoms seeking solace in Aranor.

Certain high-ranking members will be expected to dedicate one day per week teaching classes at the Arcane College. Only couriers are excluded from this requirement. Mage Protectors must help train other Mage Protectors at the College.

May all mysteries be revealed to you,

Eucretius Daxis

Now that I think about it. Calling it this and the way our characters are made then die then reborn again (more or less). Its kinda fitting after all:

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.” ― Robert Jordan
