How Would A Arena Work

I've been wondering how the implications of a Gladiator Arena might play out in COE. As far as I know, you can create about any structure as long as you have the skill set and resources, so the way i see it could work out like this. A Arena structure would be built, and the host of the arena would sell "tickets" to people who would want to see entertainment, then you could recruit fighters to put on a show and give them their fair share of pay from the people who all bought tickets, the winner gets more. Im pretty sure as long as you only incapacitate them, it isn't illegal and you dont lose soul points or whatever. Can you guys tell me if im right and how popular this arena might be, and if it doesn't sound too interesting, how might I spice it up.

Yeah I dont see a problem with your plans. I guess your land could have laws passed where CDG is legal in arenas.

No need to spice it up. I like it as it is. The only ones to spice it up are the arbiter and the fighter. Sending insults at each other and announcing fights on forehand to rally the public up :)

CdG will never become legal though.

I know that one of the duchies of Blackheart plan to have many arena and gladiatorial battles areas.

I'm pretty sure that was confirmed as something you can do. I mean less combat driven people like me might want to go to a arena and watch some unique fighting.

I remember that a while ago that Caspian talked about how there was a specific building for such events called a "Colosseum."

It would be pretty easy to organize brawls. You just have get a group of people, offer a prize, have a venue, and have them duke it out. The amount of formality you put in is up to you.

You can make as straight forward as the Witcher tavern fights.

Well im planning on making a fighters guild, or a mercenary group of bounty hunter, something along those lines. And i had multiple ideas of revenue for the guild. The first being that the guild would take up contracts to neutralize people with a bounty, and we can lend protection and escort services. But i also had the plan that wherever our main guildhall is, we could run a store selling combat armor and weapons of sorts out of it. The third option of revenue would be by having a arena connected to the guild hall and staging fights from there, not only can it make money from the outsiders wanting to see a fight, it could also help us train our new recruits and stuff. I dont think it would matter about the CDG not being legal, because i think ill have it only incapacitation, so we could keep it somewhat clean and professional. But im really glad that some people would find this interesting, thank you guys :)

On which server are you? I am sure many nobles would be interesting in hosting your guild, and many players will love to join you.

Many locations hope to host arenas. I think a well organized arena will be a boon to the local economy. As a Duke I know I will be hosting, or running many such arenas as part of a circuit/tournament system with large payouts/and prizes. Something to really draw a crowd.

What will it look like? It will include qualifiers to help build a system for tourism as the hosting arenas change. Week to week a person could go from one arena to another fighting and making a living in such a way. This helps drive a moving economy, people pick-up and drop off different items from each location and overall it really stimulates what an arena can offer.

Outside of a quick glance you could rent out the arena for military training, you could host a lavatorial school to train people. If you layer that with contracts it's easy to see how you could extrapolate and deploy a system where you train fighters who have nothing, and can pay nothing to be gladiators. They advance their craft, learn what they can, and eventually win money, prizes, fame, titles, and even a place in the conventional military.

City entertainment will be quite important. I personally want a small combat arena, 1v1 jousting, 3v3 jousting, and archery tournaments.

On the subject of Arenas in general I hope they have two things. The first being able to make personal scripts that you can attach to job contracts to have the npcs fit what you need them to do. And the second being some kind of cheer / boo adrenaline system along with the traditional thumbs up or down for a legal impunity for killing someone who deserves it.

I don't think I will have a jail, but if I do I would have a tunnel leading from jail to a gate in the arena. Where if someone pays their bail then they can have the chance for a trail by combat going in their favor to a fight to the death for the criminal with a judge in attendance to justify the death. Or if they cannot afford their bail then the prosicutor will be given a handicap against the criminal that is still a fight to the death.

  • Mon-Thursday would be league qualifiers for various rulesets for unarmored, weapon, armor, creature, tribe, and props each day. Each day would act as a league qualifier for who is eligable to fight on friday and each fight during the qualifier would be charged a small fee to fight.

  • On fridays fights would go in order from the rulesets given mon-fri lasting a number of hours. If they finish quickly there may be additional fights between creatures vs creature pet fights, creatures vs groups, ciminals vs criminals, criminals vs groups, or open battles with anything goes, or royal rumbles between nobles.

If you have items or assets you no longer have use for feel free to send them my way.

Might be a good incentive for criminals too. Give them an option to work off their time or serve time in jail, but they also have the option to fight it out in the arena risking death. I'm sure people would pay to watch two people hack each other up with the possibility of freedom. Maybe this seems a bit barbaric but whatever.

Well, we plan to make participants in our Arena sign on the dotted line that they wont CDG their opponent unless it is proclaimed that a particular tournament is a CDG tournament. That way if they do so in the Arena then their own life is now forfeit as they would have contractually agreed to such ahead of time.

There will be strategically placed archers at multiple locations to make sure the punishment is swiftly exercised.

I think having this event based instead of having a set time of week would probably work best. My guess is that you would have an easy time drawing fighters and spectators. Plenty of people are focusing on combat in this came and will want to test themselves in a structured setting. As for the location, you will likely need to buy some land, rent it, or work out an arrangement with a landowner.

Incapacitation is probably largely the way to go unless you can get the Nobility to agree to CDG and the fighters to sign a contract that allows CDG. Maybe have special fights to the CDG? I also think you could even adjudicate duels.

Taking a break and don't know when I will be back.

Love the idea of the arena! That's a great way to train recruits and bring in some revenue at the same time. You could even have private fights used for training and charge people who want to increase their skill level but don't necessarily want to join
