Domestic workers

I was wondering if there will there be any jobs that are specializing on helping the royalty, such as being a maid or a butler, etc.

The servants could help out and handle some of the responsibilities that someone from the "royalty" or from other people that can afford a servant wouldn't want to do or wouldn't have the time to do.

Great question! While it isn't something I have ever seen discussed by the developers, the general rule of thumb is if the job would naturally exist you can count on it being there in game. I don't think SbS will be programming in things like dusting and mopping, but I am certain there will be people who want to hire servants to handle domestic responsibilities for them.

Best advice I can give would be to jump into some kingdom discords, get to know the people and when you find the group you like best, ask.

If you can get somebody to pay you to do it, then it is a job.

So I would hang out a shingle, so to speak, and start lining up your clients.

I wonder if there is even a need to clean in the game? Honestly, that would be taking realism a bit to far in my book!

The issue with the assumption of "If it would naturally exist, it should exist" is that it also boils down to who would WANT to do it. Will there be butlers? Probably, but mostly NPC's. If people WANT to be butlers, then there will be people trying to be butlers....the issue is the concept of compensation and demand. The Kings might be able to afford such frivolous positions, but would they be willing to commit resources to paying said positions with little to no benefit? Depends on the King. I DO see secretaries and clerical(administrative, not as in religious) work being plausible within the system, though.

This is a good idea, but keep in mind that bodyservants in the Middle Ages (especially the early and High Middle Ages) were not like maids and manservants in later times. Power was personal. And power often manifested based on proximity to the person of the King or Queen.

The Ladies of the bedchamber were highborn women -- who, at least initially, also served the Queen by physically taking care of her bedchamber -- which was about as close to the royal person as another person could get.

That said, I don't think that "privy council member" means what that rule would suggest.
