Surname and settlement name

Hello,

I watched a Q&A video where they talked about names, and it wasn't very clear to me.

For those who are Mayor, will their surname be considered/recorded separately from their settlement name ? Or is there a kind of link that bind them together ?

Thanks for answering

Short answer: separately

Longer response: Being a mayor is a title, but try not to think of the settlement as yours. The settlement can continue on with or without you. You may own a lot of the property, but you generally don’t own it all. It’s not like a single player city management game where you get to control everything. You can get a surname now, before land selection is available. And most towns won’t be named exactly the same as the mayors surname.

Your surname and the name of the settlement are not bound in any way. You can name your settlement after your surname if you'd like to but you are not required to.

Just get enough cartographers to put your surname on the map as the name of the settlement, if you want to name the settement after yourself.
