Rangers of Hawkridge
Role:
While most domains will have some sort of scouts and archers in service, the Hawkridge Rangers will seek to be the pinnacle organization for archery, tracking, woodcraft, intelligence gathering, espionage and counter-espionage, and unconventional warfare that sets the kingdom apart, and ahead of others. Calvary will let a commander unleash devastating attacks on an enemy, but the presence of well-trained Rangers will allow the general to command the battlefield.
Organization:
The Ranger Corps will be broken into three different core units based on rank and experience.
Archers: This is the lowest level in the organization and holds the most personnel. These individuals will be graduates of the Archery training brigade at the Hawkridge Academy and will supplement ground forces with expert use of ranged weaponry. They will be trained in mounted and dismounted archery.
Scouts: This group will be made up of those archers that exceed the skill of their peers and show the ability to work in smaller units. They will precede an advancing force to give the commander reconnaissance of enemy dispositions, or provide a counter-reconnaissance when in defense. In addition to their archer training, they will also be trained in stealth and tracking.
Rangers: This group of veterans will be experts in unconventional warfare and must exceed the expertise of their peers in both archery and scouting skills. They will need to be able to work alone or in very small groups for extended periods of time. They must be experts in combined arms tactics. When not consulting with generals and rulers, they will often be sent on the more critical scouting missions, or the long-range reconnaissance patrols. (Think British SAS, or US Army Rangers + Green Berets).
