Map Voting Has Begun!

By Serpentius

Hail Elyrians!

Map Voting Is Now Live!!!

The process of Map Voting is detailed in the announcement post, which includes a detailed FAQ. Additional FAQs will be added there, if needed, so check there before seeking help.

Discussions

The server-specific general forums are the best place to have discussions as it pertains to your desired server. Posts to campaign or discuss specific maps for a server will be moved out of the General Discussion forum, but discussions about the voting process are okay there.

A temporary #map-voting channel has been opened in our official Discord. Make sure you check the pins for additional rules that apply to that channel.

With that in mind, remember that there are 10 days or until Friday, November 2nd at 12pm PST, to vote!

Head over to the Map Voting page and join the unfolding story of Elyria!

Also for clarification. The bars are not in relation to the other servers.

So just because a bar is higher on Angelica =/= they have higher influence on that map.

That is why the influence numbers aren’t being shown because it’s not about influence compared to other servers. It’s influence on your server compared to other maps.

They do a round robin type for picking as someone described. So if J is 1 on East and 6th on Eu and 4th on West. Then East gets J.

If H is 3 on West and 4 On East then West gets H. Even if East has 72873 influence on it but West has 567 influence on it.

If B is in second for East and EU then it would come down to how many accounts voted for B from each server. If EU had 678 accounts vote. And East had 342 accounts vote for it. Then EU would get B as their second rather than East. Even if East had 7268 influence on it and EU had 634.

Influence — this is where the confusion is — is only to determine the rank order of the maps on the server you voted for server.

Fortunately the misunderstanding can yet be corrected. I suppose more closely following the Discord is required but SBS should get into a habit of following up with a post in the forums, like would have made sense in this thread to post the Discord info with what was said then we would have known earlier.

Ortherion - 2 weeks ago

@Labbe thanks

That type of clarification should have also been added to the Map voting FAQ on the website not just a post on Discord IMO as this has impacted our vote on Angelica. Multiple Kingdoms don't understand that is how it is working.

SBS only using discord to post information and hoping people that don't follow it, hear about it somehow. Almost like they have a problem with communication.. but that can't be true.. since we were told it's all fine.

On a serious note, I honestly have no idea if the rules get changed, like what happened in the plague event and here. Why SBS can't post about them in both discord and their forums. Seems so illogically only posting them in one place. Almost like they either think everyone follows discord or think someone will pass it on. So no need to waste their time.

So multiple kingdoms on Angelica have no one following the official discord?

Besides that, I totally agree that rules should have been clear on the voting page or voting FAQ and not just on discord. But its still not ended. You can change votes and all that. Or did all of you use all your sparks/votes for the same map? that wouldnt make any sense, even according to voting FAQ.

AlteOgre - 2 weeks ago

I wonder what the 44.6 % represent that Caspian refers to. Do the 100 % include OCE IP or not? And what can we expect the turn-out to be in terms of IP and total members capable of voting? If I recall correctly the turn-out during TSP was about 20-30%. This may end up higher, but how high? Oooh, so exiting.

I am confused maps R and S are clearly above both NA-E and EU votes now for Angelica yet stayed part of the other servers. I thought total raw influence was the vote total . Am I missing something?

I am confused maps R and S are clearly above both NA-E and EU votes now for Angelica yet stayed part of the other servers. I thought total raw influence was the vote total . Am I missing something?

The rules were clarified, but I think it happened in the Discord channel.

"Influence in this case is used on each server to determine the order of the maps. For example, which map on Angelica is their favorite, their next favorite, their third favorite, etc... At the same time, Luna and Selene are also determining their favorite, their next favorite, etc.

To determine the maps for the different servers we round-robin each of the choices made by the server. #1 on each server is compared against #1 on each server. If there's no competition, that server locks it in. If there's competition, we look at the absolute number of votes to break the tie.

Once a map has been locked in for a server, it is removed from the pool from the rest and we continue down the line until each server has locked in their favorite maps." -Caspian

Note that this quote can be interpreted as if all individual votes anyone has casted is determinant to break ties. In an earlier quote in Discord Caspian indicated they would look at the actual numbers of accounts that voted for each map, which would be more in agreement with the spirit of how I believe SBS approaches this decision making process. This difference is not subtle and relevant. When going by votes casted instead of accounts, it would matter for people to cast their maximum number of votes (equivalent to the number of life sparks they have at their disposal). Using myself as an example: If I'd only wish to support map H, and I have 3 sparks of life, I would only need to vote once when ties are broken based on account count, but I better cast 3 votes if ties are broken based on vote counts. To me, it is not yet 100 % certain which method SBS uses until they explicitely mention this in the first post in this thread. I agree that this communication on the voting process must be clarified/updated here, as also suggested by others.

It is impossible to tell. Caspian has stated that 28% of the people capable of voting have already voted, but we have no way of knowing if the other 72% is just waiting to see how the vote develops, or if they are not aware that voting is going on and might miss it entirely.

We could see either minimal changes, or still a huge upset.

You can't save your vote for round 2. You might as well vote for the best coastline in round 1 and then the best duchy boundaries in round 2.

Caspian has been working on Duchy Lines for use with round 1 of map voting. There is no guarantee that it will happen until round 2 though because of how they generate, but many people are holding out on choosing between certain maps until they are either added, or the time limit approaches.

Personally I do not see the necessity, but I can see why some people like dukes and duchesses might.

Ah, I didn’t realize that. Actually, duchy lines could make a huge difference with regard to how the “choke points” operate. If, for instance, the alleged choke point works out to one or two duchies in one kingdom sharing boundaries with three, four or more duchies in a rival kingdom, given that military resources are available to duchies on a fairly even basis, then the “choke point” would become a long, indefensible boundary facing an inherent concentration of opposing forces all along it.

So I see a lot of people voting for maps that have a single area joining the Northern and the Southern lands. I'm curious as to why players would vote for this. If one sect or guild or kingdom gets control of this sector they could restrict passage of goods from North to South or vice versa, they could levy heavy taxes to get through.. I view this is a critical error on the part of voters.

Just my 2 cents.

A chokepoint guarantees an interesting game in a military and mercantile view ;) On the other hand you could easyly ship around it, if taxes are too high... what may leed to a high amount of pirates... what makes the game even more interesting. ..

In the bio and bit of lore provided for the Brudvir, wouldn't the Alpine Forest biome fall under them rather than the Hrothi? The mountains makes sense since Hrothi architecture is mostly stone and carved-out mountain, but Brudvir use ample amounts of lumber for their buildings.

Unless I missed the description of the Taiga biome, I'm a little confused by this.

Question: Say, I was a King 1 of a Kingdom with biome A and B and another King 2 of biome C and D. We both agree to create two new kingdoms with biomes A and C and the other with biomes B and C. Would it be possible to make that decision, if just all dukes below King 1 settle in biome A and C instead of A+B, just like King 2s dukes settle in biomes B and D instead of C+D (the same for lower nobility) and on first sedecim, we just decide to exchange those biomes and create new borderlines? Sedecim is where borders get changed, right? Can it be as drastical as that?

This is definitely not something that could be done pre-launch.

Post launch, Especially at a Sedecim, I do not see why it wouldn't be feasible to trade half of Kingdom 1 for half of Kingdom 2. That would be ridiculously difficult to do though and if you could broker that then I would like to go into business with you good sir/ma'am.

The Dukes settling into each other's kingdoms is where the real issue is. They would have to trust each other to end up going through with the trade when we reach our first in game Sedecim, and I don't see the Dukes or Kings going along with that idea on simple good faith.

Gromschlog - 3 weeks ago

I thought, it was 8 dukes per kingdom... with 2-4 biomes per kingdom, to me that sounds like 2-4 duchies per biome, not 6.

DukeAlduin - 3 weeks ago

I have a question, does each biome have 6 duchies contained within it?

Thanks!

There are 17 biomes in the legend and only 16 regions appear in all the maps, was this an intended thing? In all the maps the removed biome is the Bog (Dras), except for Map K and L where there is no Salt Marsh (Dras)

Am very excited about map voting, even without the duchy lines in round one. One thing I do think would be helpful...

Would it be possible to get a variable on the Y-axis? As of Wed morning we can see that both H and L are really taking off, but are those horizontal lines they pass 100 / 200 / 300 or 1000 / 2000 / 3000 (etc)? It's hard to know how popular a map is without a quantifier, unless of course that was your intent?
