Visualising Dimensions of the World

OUTDATED

Introduction

Although we've had plenty of threads on how big the world of Elyria could be like, I've decided to drop a small table as overview working with our current numbers.

Related topics

(Some of them with outdated sizes)

Disclaimer

Let me say beforehand that all numbers we know of are subject to change, not final and can be wrong. They can also be wrongly put together although I've taken great care to research as much as I could.

The population is extrapolated from a total of 200,000 characters per server. The information for settlements is from an old DJ with the sections "Aristocracy & Establishing Settlements" as well as "Sizes of Land and Settlements" to estimate values related to settlements.

Table

This table shows a few numbers on parcels, settlements and domains of reign as well as the world in relation to:

  • Quantity
  • Size
  • Parcels
  • Skyrim map size
  • Per county quantity
  • Inhabitants
  • Population density
  • Pictures for comparison and visualising how big everything might be

Future

This is still a work in progress and hence visualisation is still restricted to General and USA East. I'll update for the other zones accordingly.

[UPDATE: World size to 216km x 128km as referenced in post #1]
[UPDATE: Revised extrapolation for population]

Hope this helps.

Overall world size has changed see replies #1 and #3 in Dada's thread referenced above in the link shown as "Size of Elyria".

The latest should be 27,648 square kilometers. Caspian gave three different dimensions as examples with this result. Effectively giving examples of a North-South axis continent, a East-West axis continent and a 'balanced' continent, e.g. 128 x 216 for a north-south arrangement.

Beautiful table! ;-) --- love the overlay on Manhattan graphic idea!

Thank you. The Manhattan idea is not from me but from DunsScotus.
I have updated the table - must have missed it when going over the other threads.

Travelling the world

Unfortunately we don't know how much different running and going by mount is compared to walking.
If we'd assume protected streets without events happening you cannot run from and look at our world as a reference (which might be quite off because CoE is still a game that has to be balanced), one could assume a healthy horse to trot at 13km/h for several hours.

  • {US/EU} County at 16km² - if square area - the diagonal = ~5.657km
  • {APAC} County at 24km² - if square area - the diagonal = ~6.928km
  • {Skyrim} 38.265520km² - if square area - the diagonal = ~8.748km

Walking

Skyrim walked across within 2hours and 10 minutes would be:

  • {Skyrim} ~8.748km / 2.17h = ~ 4.03 km/h walking and is very realistic as a value

The walking speed in CoE was described to potentially be 1.5 m/s (5.4 km/h) for the 48 hour example. Counties of 5.657km and 6.928km diagonal would take

  • {US/EU} 1 hour and 3 minutes and
  • {APAC} 1 hour and 17 minutes respectively by walking.

Using the former world size of 256km x 256km:

side length = 256km

256km / (5.4 km/h) = 47 hours and 24 minutes as described in an older Q&A.

diagonal = sqrt (256km * 256km + 256km * 256km) = 362km

362km / (5.4 km/h) = 67 hours and 2 minutes.

Now looking at the new world size of 216km x 128km we have:

side lengths = 216km or 128km

216km / (5.4 km/h) = 40 hours.

128km / (5.4 km/h) = 23 hours and 42 minutes.

diagonal = sqrt(216km * 216km + 128km * 128km) = ~251km

~251km / (5.4 km/h) = 46 hours and 29 minutes.

Riding a horse

County travel

Horse trot at 13 km/h:

  • {US/EU} ~5.657km in ~26 minutes
  • {APAC} ~6.928km in ~32 minutes
  • {Skyrim} ~8.748km in ~40 minutes

Horse moderate canterbury gallop at 16 km/h:

  • {US/EU} ~5.657km in ~21 minutes
  • {APAC} ~6.928km in ~26 minutes
  • {Skyrim} ~8.748km in ~33 minutes

Horse fast canterbury gallop at 27 km/h:

  • {US/EU} ~5.657km in ~12.6 minutes
  • {APAC} ~6.928km in ~15.4 minutes
  • {Skyrim} ~8.748km in ~19.4 minutes

Now I don't know if the mounts in CoE will have comparable speeds but this is all but theocrafting anyway.

A full gallop at 40 km/h and slightly higher can only be maintained for 1.6km - 3.2km.

But for theoretical comparison I'll list it too.
Horse gallop at 40 km/h:

  • {US/EU} ~5.657km in ~8.5 minutes
  • {APAC} ~6.928km in ~10.4 minutes
  • {Skyrim} ~8.748km in ~13.1 minutes

World travel

And now the horse speeds over the entire map diagonal but note that no horse can go that far without breaks or resting in between:

{US/EU/APAC} ~251km in

  • Horse trot 13 km/h
in 19 hours and 19 minutes

  • Horse moderate canterbury gallop 16 km/h
in 15 hours and 42 minutes

  • Horse fast canterbury gallop 27 km/h
in 9 hours and 17 minutes

  • Horse full gallop 40 km/h
in 6 hours and 17 minutes

Again, this is without taking into consideration delays, survival, geography or game play in general.
