House Skovgaard
Primary role: Farming

History of family:
The Skovgaard have always been farmers, but farming is not how they earned there wealth. The first of the Skovgaard family was actually very unsuccessful at farming. Being able to grow just enough food to feed the family. This was hundreds of years ago. The one thing the family was good at it was experimenting and trying out new ideas. The one idea that earned the family it’s wealth was fertilizer. You see the family had really crappy land for farming and so came up with its own fertilizer so they could grow something. Anything would do just so they could survive.
Then one day disease started hitting the other farmers. Killing off huge amounts of plants and crops. Famine quickly swept the kingdom. People noticed however that the Skovgaard farm was still growing things. Even though everywhere else was dying.
The local people grew distrustful. Believing the Skovgaard responsible for the famine, and burnt them out of there home and farm. The Skovgaard family quickly fled to the capital.
The kingdom was dying. Years of famine had taken hold. The land simply wasn’t able to grow large amounts of food. The Skovgaard family at this moment in history were no longer famers. Instead they had set up a small shop in the capital. Selling whatever they could get there hands on. However the leader of the house hadn’t stopped with his experimenting and messing around and had convinced the town mayor to grant him a small piece of land outside of the town walls and had successfully started growing crops.
Now this being the capital and not some backwater county people were rightfully amazed by this. People started coming to the families shop to buy food and ask how they had managed to grow food in such a horrific conditions. The leader of the family didn’t know. He told them about how he farms and how the fertilizer he uses was his own making, mixing in different chemicals till things started to grow the way he wanted.
Soon the story of the man who made things grow got around the Capital. Then the wealthy landowners came. Desperate for the answers. The the family started selling fertiliser. Making money faster then they could count it. Soon they had a bigger house. Bigger shop. Bigger farm. The legend of the family started to grow.
The king took notice as food started to grow again. He wanted answers and so tracked down the family who made it all possible.
The king asked the leader of the family what they wanted as a reward for stopping the famine. The family simply wanted to go home, back to Skarthi.
The king gave them the county instead.
And that’s how house Skovgaard was founded and became Counts.
Modern history
The family have always enjoyed learning new things, books and experimentation were a mark of the Skovgaard. Not to make money, just because it was fun to learn new things.
Eventually the Skovgaard family library got pretty large with everything they had learnt over the many many years they had been doing this. From maps of ancient kingdoms. To books on weapon making, alchemy and just random lore.
So they decided to set up the School of Utdannelse. So other people could come and study what the family picked up over the years and so they could add to it’s knowledge.
Lusafar is the current leader of the School, and it has grown larger than house Skovgaard ever could. With people across Elyria seeking out new knowledge to add to the great collection housed in Utdannelse.
Skarthi
The County is a Viking theme built around food production, research and PvP. The ability to feed yourself is of vital importance so having a County designed around food production will be vital to a growing Kingdom. In the farming season people will be responsible for the production of food on their land. This could be animals or plant based. The goal is to have enough food to keep yourself fed and have enough to export to create the foundations of a stable economy. We also persue knowledge of the world around us. By working together we can become a powerhouse of knowledge allowing us to find new and improved methods of farming which may stay off plague, drought and starvation. In order to aid us in this venture the School of Uttdannelse will be based in Skarthi. It has connections to every guild and organisation in Tryggr. Its mandate is to further the education of all Tryggr citizens.
Skathi will still have a need of many different people with unique skills. Blacksmith, woodcutters, carpenters and much more will be required to insure a stable level of equipment within the county. Although these industries will not be major contributors to the economy, they are however classed as vital. The Count reserves the right to offer special compensation to anyone taking on these roles if recruitment becomes difficult.
Land
Skarthi is inside the Kingdom of Tryggr. Tryggr is a Kingdom based on Community. Where no one is bigger than the whole, with each member working together for the benefit of all. People joining this County must also join the Kingdom of Tryggr and follow the laws set out by the Kingdom.
The objective during land selection is to acquire land with as much fertility as possible. Preferable next to a river or lake. This will allow us easy levels of irrigation and growth rate. More news on that when we complete land selection.
Tribe
House Skovgaard plans to play as the Brudvir tribe. As land selection hasn’t taken place its most likely they will be played outside there native biome. We are confident that with research and the mixing of bloodlines we can limit the negative effects of playing a tribe outside its native area of gameplay. To achieve this we will be moving parts of the Brudvir tribe during KoE to the area where Skarthi will be. People playing within the County can play as any tribe they like. They are not limited to the tribe of the ruling Count. We encourage people to try out different combinations to ensure we have a healthy balance of each species of Mann within the play area.
War
If war is declared everyone shall fight. This is called the Leidang. Each town/Barony will create units to fight in the Leidang. Each town/Barony must maintain ships in the nearest port/harbour to effectively make sure you can move your Leidang to the conflict zone. The ship is the responsibility of your settlement. If the objective of the war does not call for a ship then you shall form a combined land force with other towns in your area and move to your rally point given to you by the County Huscarl. Failure to follow the call of the Leidang will see you face a Thing. The highest punishment that the Thing can give you for a failure to follow the Leidang is removal of land rights and exile. The Leidang will only be called by the Jarl when war is declared by a member of the Tryggr leadership.
For those wishing a place as a career solider you can join the Skarthi Hird. This is a small band of highly trained, highly equipped soldiers responsible for the guarding of key buildings, infrastructure and people of importance inside Skarthi. In times of war they form a unit of elite shock troops. Designed to hit the enemy in ambushes and use hit and run tactics. This is to slow an advancing enemy and create high levels of attrition on those units. Should the worse happen, and the county is lost. These units will be left behind in order to form a resistance against the occupation. Providing intel on enemy forces to aid in the liberation.
Jobs
The County has permanent job roles to aid in its development. These jobs will come with a base level of pay:
Tax collector
Organises the collection of the Danegeld. The Danelgeld is a tribute based tax system. Raiders will give a part of there raided loot to the collector. County workers and traders will give gold to the collector. The rate at which they tribute is yet to be decided. The collector will then give tribute to the Jarl.
Huscarl
Trains, equips and manages the Hird. In times of war they will raise the Leidang, and set rally points for those forces. They will also make notes of the people who refuse the call of the Leidang. This list will be given to the Thing.
Law Speaker
Organises the meeting of the Thing to sort out disputes between landowners and the populace. Will feedback important information to the Jarl.
Matters of treason, murder and raiding without paying the Danegeld will see the Jarl sit in the Thing, to hear the evidence and pass judgement.
More jobs will be posted as time goes on.
At this moment in time we do not currently have a running discord. One will be created after land selection. When this post will be fully finished with land details. However should you have any questions feel free to PM me, leave a comment or come over to Tryggr discord.
