The Duchy of Asébeia
Introduction:
Asébeia is a Duchy in a part of the Woodland Savanna in the Kingdom of Al-Khezam.
Sekinah, located in the most southern lands bordering the swamps, is the home of Sheki's Den - the Duchy's capital and political center.
Excerpt from a Traveller's log:
Endless coastlines are your first impression of this land, an unbroken line except for a single jutting peninsula, rushing out into the sea. Few parts of the duchy of Asébeia remain untouched by its vast coastlines; fishermen, traders, builders and loggers all feel the frequent sea breezes. It is the coastal avenue towards the southern swamps, a massive piece of coastline inhabited by the native To’resk, who enjoy the regular traffic up and down the coastline.
The duchy of Asébeia is a place of trade and travel, a realm of wild woodlands and roaming beasts, with cultured hubs of activity, playing host to travelers from all corners of the realm and beyond, as they travel up and down the coast to the royal seat further south. A people of forthrightness but high social graces, the native Asébeians enjoy the finer things in life.
Here the coins of culture, of civility and honest trade matter most to the natives, who are well known to be able to see truth. Its people are honest and helpful to those that deal with them fairly, welcoming to travelers and traders alike.
Ruled over by Shekinah, the Asébeians represent the peak of toreshian culture and honest trade and toil.
Duchess
Shekinah of House Agaue is the Duchess and .on behalf of King Usifan, she has been appointed to rule over Asébeia, her primary duty to look after the well-being of all inhabitants of the lands within the Duchy.
A melting pot of Tribes.
As Asébeia is situated in the Woodland Savanna biome, To'resk will constitute the broad majority of its inhabitants together with a significant number of Neran, The Waerd, Dras and even some Janoa.
Since times beyond Mann's memory, those citizens from different tribes have played, and still play, a vital role in the history of the Duchy.
Strong houses, spread all over the lands, have played influental roles in both politics and commerce and shaped the Duchy into what it is today. Except maybe for the Dras, who didn't spread out but stayed close to their natural biome, building up a strong presence and thriving economy, to such an extent that the capital of the Duchy rose up close to the Southern border near the swamps.
Religion
The main religion of Asébeia is Qindred, although we are open to all religions. The Cult of Luna, however, is gaining some traction within the Southern lands.
Civil administration
To help the Duchess manage the duchy, a Privy Council has been formed, consisting of the duchess, counts and advisers. Some with specific duties and areas of expertise, others are simply there to give advise as they do best. The size of the Privy Council is not set, and is ever changing depending on the current situation. Some positions are, however, more static than others. The Privy Council also discusses and advises back about what is brought forward by the Court and/or relays it to the committee they deem fit to handle it. When needed they will put requests from Court to a vote.
The Court is a representative and advisory body consisting of the mayors, the leaders of organisations and guilds. Members of the Privy Council may join when the Court is coming together but won't have a vote in it.
The Court may discuss laws, taxes and regulations and vote to present them to the Privy Council, but the decisions are always made by the Privy Council.
Recognizing that Asébeia will consists of thousands of citizens, the Duchess depend on the Court to represent their people in a good and just manner and to deal with any dispute between citizens, organisations, guilds in a just and civilized manner.
Committees of government
Administration is divided into several Committees with specific duties and objectives. The most prominent of which are the:
- Treasury Committee
- Judicial Committee
- Scientific Committee
- Military Committee
- Naval Committee
- Religious Committee
- Preservation Committee
We are actively looking for ambitious and experienced players who wish to fill the roles as branch leaders, advisers and councillors.
Military administration
Part of the duties of the settlement leaders is law enforcement, the defense of the lands, and if needed, leading the duchy levies to war. The Crown Marshal will be in charge to help, oversee and organise those duties.
Barons will be funded by the duchy and they will be in charge of law enforcement in their local area, defending their turf and training troops.
Barons wishing to have a special focus on a single branch of the army such as cavalry, artillery/archery etc. are encouraged to do so, and may apply for extra funding.
Laws and taxation
In Asébeia we want to create room for each and every one to find their own home, and opportunity to pursue their own goals and dreams. This does not mean there will be no taxes or laws, but it means we must find a good balance between creating the necessary framework, and not interfering too much.
The Trade Road
Good infrastructure is an important objective for a strong duchy. To encourage trade, and help people move quickly within lands, we have initiated a project dubbed "The Trade Road" for building good roads through the duchy, and building or funding capable ports handling the trade in and out of the duchy.
In line with this we also reserve some funds for projects brought forward that contribute to trading, exploring -land and sea - and setting up marketplaces.
Counties and Settlements
Asébeia has currently 19 counties and 55 settlements available . (Will be updated as DSS goes on)
Counties
