Greetings friends,
You may recall the first concept sketch of Janoan architecture shared a few months back. We're back with more!
As we continue to develop the biomes and cultures, we require more concept art! In this week's shiny, additional work has been done on new architectural elements for the Janoa. These don't replace the last set of concepts; these are adding to the set!
The buildings in the last set were simple structures made of simple materials, and largely represent dwellings and commercial structures for the common Janoa. The materials and construction of this week's set represent structures that are less common and could be used for middle-class dwellings or civic buildings. Clay, stone, and lumber are more time consuming than grasswood and thatch to build with, and therefore are more expensive.
The jungle floor is tough to build on. Massive root systems, dense vegetation, muddy ground, steep hillsides, and predators all mean that Janoa find it practical to raise their structures off the forest floor. In what flat clearings that do exist, the magic of masonry helps to keep buildings cool and dry. As with the previous set, the ground floor is often a utility floor, and people will tend to spend more time - and keep more important possessions - in the upper floors. As with the building on the top-left and center, the front entrance goes directly to the upper floor.
Stay shiny!
