[Sticky] Settlers of Elyria Returns!

Update: So it begins! Thank you again to all of you for your patience. This delay was extremely trying, My self and the developers worked through the night to triple and quadruple check everything. We're excited to see how the face of the continents change in the coming days, so without further adieu:

Welcome to Settlers of Elyria! Click Here to go to the Event!

One of the major factors in the issues we experienced that prevented the launch was in the featured sale module. While we work to fix that and make sure it did not hide any further bugs, we have chosen to disable featured sales until it is fully tested and working. Once we are confident in our fixes, we’ll enable feature sales across all servers.

======================== original post =========================

Greetings Elyrians,

After quite the adventure we're thrilled to announce our 45-day Dutch Auction event, Settlers of Elyria will officially begin tomorrow, March 14th! Over the course of the next month and a half, members of our community both new and old will have the opportunity to stake a land claim on any of our four servers and become a part of the history of Elyria!

From 4:00 PM PDT, March 14th to 4:00 PM PDT April 28th 2020 new and existing players will have a limited time opportunity to change the history of Elyria forever by claiming Settlements, Counties, and Duchies!

Each day of the event, the price of every domain that is available will drop by 1%, up to 45% off on the final day of the event.

Featured Domains will be selected to have an additional -10% off the original price. These flash sales will change every 20 minutes, but no domain will be on sale twice, so don’t miss out!

While the event is on, normal purchasing rules remain in effect. You will only be able to purchase a holding on your primary server, or, if you are new, your purchase will automatically record that server as your primary server.

If you already have a holding claimed, this is the perfect opportunity to upgrade! Remember, your upgrade must be in the same domain hierarchy. So, as a Mayor, you must upgrade to the county or duchy your settlement is in, and as a Count you can only purchase the duchy your existing county resides in. Of course, you don’t have to purchase each domain in hierarchy order. Each lesser domain upgrade will be automatically added to your purchase, so, if you have no holdings and you are purchasing a Duchy, a County and Settlement will be added to your order automatically.

How It works

The first time you visit the Domain and Settlement Selection map portal, you'll see a tutorial explaining the new user experience. In this new and improved map portal you can explore the Duchies, Counties, and Settlements available for purchase. Once you have found the domain you want, click Buy Now on the Information Panel. You'll be able to name your domain and confirm your selection before checking out. Your domains are not locked-in until you confirm your names on this screen! Once you confirm you name selection you will be brought to the checkout section of our store to purchase your domain, and any necessary upgrades. Only after the purchase is complete will your claim be finalized and submitted for name approval.

Holding Prices

Each domain has a set starting price, based on a milieu of factors such as location and wealth. As the event progresses, these base prices will receive a 1% discount each day.

These base prices are:

  • Settlements: $65.00 - $135.00

  • Counties: $350.00 to $650.00

  • Duchies: $650.00 to $1,350.00

Flash sales will update every 20 minutes, featuring a new domain at an additional 10% off! Don’t wait - no domain will be on sale twice!

Act Fast or Miss Out!

During the event, NPCs will also be settling in Elyria! This means if you are eyeing up a new Settlement, County, or Duchy, waiting might mean an NPC swoops in and claims this domain, so act fast when you see the right holding at the right price!

As always, if you have any other questions about Settlers of Elyria, please ask them in the comments below or check out the official FAQ here. We look forward to you all taking part, and greeting all the new members who join our community!

Good luck!

Why not let us peruse the map first for a week, build up hype and spread the word in our communities that you've got it fixed and up again and then begin the sale?

Would genuinely love to know what the plan is behind releasing it all with one day's notice, is something else planned to release soon?

What about the discount on the settlements and domains that had gone into effect before? They should start back where they left off... not start back at base.

Couple questions I saw pop up regarding npc picks that weren't made clear in the FAQ.

  • Are NPCs going to continue selecting domains after the event ends, or will they stop when the event stops?

  • The way the answer to Q13 is worded makes it sound like at most, only 1 npc selection will happen per server per day. Is that accurate?

Swear there was a third one but I'm drawing a blank :D

A small request, add the following question to the FAQ for settlers of Elyria:

"Will domain purchased by NPC be returned for sale in the future?"

Player should know this before their purchases to minimize drama later on.

Never argue with an idiot, cuz he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Is it expected that the Domains portal right now returns 302 and redirects to the main page?

Ahhh, I suppose this should be stated in the OP then.

Also, maybe add to the OP the link to the FAQ: https://chroniclesofelyria.com/forum/topic/34729/settlers-of-elyria-faq#post388143

Finally!

Would've been good if we had a little more time between the new map going live and the sale starting.

To avoid the exact same situation as last time....

I am happy is finally done and ready to be explored. Few days notice and the new map released only for read would have been a better idea.

I see this questions pop up regularily. May I suggest to add them to the FAQ?

1. Do I need a pledge package to buy a domain in Settlers of Elyria?

Yes, you need a pledge package, but if you buy a domain and you don't have the appropriate one it will be added automatically. So you can buy directly in SoE even if you currently don't have the appropriate pledge package.

2. When you buy a county you have to get a town+ settlement?

Yes. Every unclaimed county has at least 1 settlement of the size town or higher reserved for the future count. When you buy a county you have to select a settlement from the remaining ones of size town or higher. HOWEVER You can first buy a settelement (of any size). When that is done you can buy the county the settlement is in, which will upgrade your settement to town level if it is smaller.

3. Can I pick another Domain?

No. The Settlers of Elyria event is intendet for players who don't own a domain to pick one, or for those who already have a domain to upgrade it. This means: If you have a settlement, you cannot buy another settlement (extend), but if the county your settlement is in is unclaimed, you can claim that county (upgrade). This is also true if you are already a count. You cannot buy an adjacent county to make your domain bigger (extend), but if the duchy, your county is in is unclaimed you can claim that duchy (upgrade).

Can there be a clarification on whether NPC’s can take duchies? Caspian commented in discord in December that they can’t (see below) but this latest info post says they can and the FAQ doesn’t make it specific.

Um is it open now or not? Can someone provide an updated link to the domain maps... the old one doesn't seem to do anything for me.

Considering this will only be in effect for less than 24 hours, that seems totally unnecessary. After the maps are updated you'll be able to use that page just fine.

The page is down while the maps update.

I beg to differ. That's the kind of thing you want to tell your players because: a) it costs nothing, b) it prevents unpleasant surprises, confusion and questionning if something is broken.

Awesome, I just thought there would be a little more than 24 hour notice...
